We are in trouble…

The population of this country is 300 million.

160 million are retired..
That leaves 140 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school.
Which leaves 55 million to do the work.

Of this there are 35 million employed by the federal government.
Leaving 15 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces preoccupied with killing Osama Bin-Laden.
Which leaves 12.2 million to do the work.

Take from that total the 10.8 million people who work for state and city governments.
And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.

At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals.
Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do the work.
You and me.

And there you are,
Sitting on your ass,
At your computer, reading jokes.
Nice. Real nice.

And your sitting the other end posting this crap to distract me....thanks for nothing :yum::yum::yum:

Good post CG:wink:

If it wasn't for the people in our military you would not be free to do whatever it is you do.
This is true....and it's wasted on some people that don't do what they should do. I see guys in the mall on the weekends still in their fatigues walking with pride and wonder what must be going thru their mind when they see people walking around them like they are invisible. The guys their age with pants hang'in off their butt and bangs in their eyes, with attitude to match.

The population of this country is 300 million. 160 million are retired.

All kidding aside, I have often used this statistic here, myself. Many 'boomers are retiring, or taking a "buy out" package from employers and going the "early out" path.

Over the next six to eight years, the "cash cow" of boomers that were tax payers will become 'tax users' as they switch over to Social Security and other government programs.

The sad thing is that we all knew it was coming. There never was any surplus as we aged. When we went to school they either quickly built new facilities or we crowded existing schools. I went to kindergarten in an old refurbished army barracks.

There were over 40,000 college students at the UW Madison during the Vietnam era.

The boomers literally built Honda's motorcycle division.

So it should come as no surprise that we would all stop working at the same time, need Social Security at the same time, clog up hospitals and nursing homes and sell off consumer goods instead of creating new markets.

The tragedy of this condition is that creates a type of class warfare. I have already been in debates where Generation X age members accuse boomers of "sucking up all of the money." In many ways true enough. However, we built the stuff, we paid in, we had a good work ethic and now it's time to pay the piper.

I will tell you one thing, I'm glad to be out of the fray. The war haunted every aspect of my life as a college student. We were all told to "go to work" even when we didn't want to, or if we couldn't find jobs in our chosen field. Anyone who took a year off after school was tagged as a "bum."

There is a great sense of relief and joy in not having to lug around all of the guilt and jibberish. And let me tell you, I did feel some guilt the first morning I slept in late.

In truth, I don't know what the Generations X and Y will do. It's going to be very rough. As all other people before them, they will get through it, but simply not in the manner they envisioned.
