Windmills Gone Wild!

For an administration that loves to drone-on-and-on about how they make decisions based in "fact" and "science" -rather than outdated concepts such as honor, common sense, morality, or patriotism- Team Obama sure don't seem to have much of an appetite for facts of the unwelcome variety, now do they-

Take the collapse of the always-shaky argument for 'action' (read taxes and political payoffs) to 'combat man-made global warming' -up to and including the exposure of massive academic fraud: still not enough to shake Obama and the 'progressives' off a scam that means SO much ($) to so many:. Genenral Electric makes the windmills, Al Gore writes the books, and the evil titans of American industry get controlled/taxed to death... what a gig

And just like the Ghaddafis... these racketeers aren't letting go without a vicious fight, either: thus ceaseless threats to inflict cap-n-tax by regulation and/or executive fiat.

But the "science" stinks like trash-truck juice, we currently find ourselves stuck at 10% unemployment... the industrial Rust Belt in a death spiral... gas prices soaring... mired deep in a stagnant recession that appears headed for a double-dip... all while buried in snow up to our freaking ears.

How is it that anybody still welcomes this dubious agenda rammed down our throats at the worst possible time... besides Obama, California Internet barons, ossified hippies... and GE ?

And not only is the entire case for globaloney unsettled at-best, our nation's electrical grid is in no way suitable for widespread wind-power generation and /or Chevy Volts... no matter how much Obamabucks are thrown around, the infrastructure just isn't there.

And then there's the practicality of the technology in it's current state of development...

Here are some photos of what happens when transmission failures occur in windmills- it's said that no single windmill gear oil has been developed that is able to withstand the demands of these beasts. While the degree of the challenge is unconfirmed, recently, the government gave Dow-Corning a grant to work on it, and they claim to have made progress. Others have previously attempted... and failed.

And thus -in combination with with complex maintenance issues- the problem...

Hello up there, that you Al...?

Good post PG......it did look like al didnt it? maby he is tosting his morning honey bun!!!:yum:

Maybe GE is the problem, not the wind turbine concept. Jacobs wind turbines have been generating electricity around the Central Plains since the 1920's, with none of the catastrophic failures that seem to be plaguing GE. Of course the Jacobs line was developed to supply power to farms and ranches before the wide-spread electrification of rural areas, and that is still their primary use (ie, small, mostly rural applications) but their success shows that wind turbines do have a place, even if it is a small one.

And the "excess" electricity has two common uses; some of it usually goes into owners' storage batteries to cover windless days, and the rest is back-fed into the electric company (for which the turbine owner receives $$$!).

I wish we still lived in a place where we could erect a Jacobs.

The Turbines Are Coming! The Turbines Are Coming!

Or should I say they are here and near?
Not sure how to feel about this..
Hmmm..

The Van Wert economy sees green as it moves into the green energy revolution.

Wind turbines are sprouting up across Van Wert County. Two wind farms are under construction. Iberdrola Renewables is building a wind farm with 152 turbines. They'll generate enough power for 75,000 homes.

"Our project is a major shot in the arm for the area. At the moment there are probably about 400 people who are working on this site. I think about 60% of them are based in Ohio," Dan Litchfield, Business Director for Iberdrola Renewables, said.

Not too far from Iberdrola Renewables wind farm is Horizon Wind Energy's property. It's putting up 55 turbines. That's enough to power 27,000 homes.

"We decided to build here because one there's a great wind resource. Two, because the community has really welcomed us to be here in this area, and so just those two combinations makes this a great place for a wind farm," Sarah Distelrath, Project Developer for Horizon Wind Energy, said.

Both projects were highlighted at the annual Van Wert County Economic Development Dinner. All the construction from both projects has created hundreds of jobs.

"There are 21 contractors from northwest Ohio who are working on this job and we've spent about $21 million with those contractors. You know, concrete for the foundation, gravel for the roads, the port-o-john company, the company that's putting seed mix on the soil, so it's a wide variety of local companies that are getting a boost of activity when there's not much else going on," Litchfield said.

Once the turbines are up and running, the companies will hire another 30 to 40 workers. The projects are also a shot in the arm for the economy in terms of money.

"There's going to be a major impact in terms of the dollar investment. The direct dollar investment as well as indirect investment for the city, county, local jurisdictions in terms of sales tax because of all the equipment and the machinery and materials that are having to be purchased for the projects," Nancy Bowen, Economic Development Director, said.

While the wind farms are a major part of the county's economic future, it's not the only bright spot. The county's economic development group is also focusing on its super-site project, a 1,600 acre development which is expected have a huge impact on the future of the region.

Yeah, there goes a quiet country drive to shop in Van Wert, eh?

My biggest concern is, what if these things fail or break down.. AND I have to wonder if we here (12 miles or so away) are are going to be forced to choose this source of energy, say vs... AEP electric?

I have a lot of questions at this point.
One you should be asking is if they are installing Wal-Mart (Made in China with stimulus funds) windmills. More smoke and mirrors from the squatters at 1600 PA Ave about giving two shits about Americans or American jobs. Maybe these were more of those jobs that "...Americans don't want to do, so we use foreigners."

Aint it great????? Just in time for election time!!!!Then when they are all built..........the ecos will come with their lawyers and cry......OH NO the birdys will get head ackes and shut them all down.......Money spent...jobs gone green elect prices now in place ...aint the screwer in chief great??????

One of the problems with liberals/greenies is that they cannot see past their current good feeling. It's all about feeling good for feeding the hungry (they wouldn't be hungry if they spent their welfare check on food instead of crack), clothing the children (they wouldn't need clothes if the parents didn't smoke and shoot-up all the gubmit money), saving the whales (why?), saving the planet (the planet is fine, it's the people who are phucked up), closing the hole in the ozone layer (does anyone think it might have always been there to act as an exhaust vent of sorts??? I didn't think so.) and all that sort of pseudo worthy causes. They also don't care what the immediate and/or long term costs are, because they are demanding that the gubmit "do something about it," which means you and me get to pay for it, and the liberals/greenies have nothing invested other than their current good feeling and hemp clothing.

I have a solution...if anyone comes up with a feel good/do good program that they want to force on the people of America, they must be required to have a private funding source to pay for it. It's THEIR phucking idea, let THEM pay for it with dollars from like-minded feel good/do good people with deep pockets, but leave me and everyone else out of the financial loop unless we choose to be involved. If Suzanne Summers wants to save the children, let her ask John Travolta to sell his 747 and give the money to clothing the children. Betcha he tells her to put her idea where the sun don't shine. The gubmit paying for every lunatic program just to garner votes from fringe groups is insane and must be stopped. Got a problem with this country? Pack your shit and get the phuck out. Think we pollute too much for your liking? Pack your shit and go sell your feel good program to the Chi-Comms, Ruskies or any one of a dozen foreign countries that make Los Angeles look like the garden of Eden. See how long they put up with your bullshit idea.

This business of pandering to every fringe group just so you can garner votes to stay in office and avoid ever having to work for the rest of your life is insane. Chinese made windmills that will cost more to operate, deliver less reliable power and create massive noise pollution wherever they are planted is just one of the myriad fringe group ideas that these non-thinking, non-working career politicians have forced down our throats. I think every greenie should have one of the biggest windmills made placed in THEIR backyard, and be allowed to generate "clean energy" 24/7/365. Take full ownership of your feel good/do good idea, but don't force it down my throat or the rest of the country. I'm tired of your nonsense, and I'll do my best to unseat your "tool" in Washington at the next election. The insanity must stop. JMHO
