I think pea shellers have a set of knives to slit open the hull before they pass through the roller. Plus, those rollers don't look like they move away from each other, which indicate to me that they would squash the peas before ejecting them.

Are you sure it has to do with food?

Not a duck (feather) plucker, those have rubber fingers and typically only one rotating cylinder instead of two.
 
The bottom roller appears to be simple diamond hatching. Is there a specific pattern in the three sections of the upper roller?
 
Perhaps a roller system designed to "knurl" non-ferrous metal strips or rods? Just my WAG without any scientific thought.:yum:
 
I dunno, but it should be guarded. Finger wouldn't look so good after a trip through that.

Looks like it is for something paper thin.
 
Looks to me like a banding machine for strapping up boxes and large parcels...the pattern is the same.
