What is the Best Scent you can Remember?

I can't name one in particular that I remember. What amazes me is when I smell a scent that brings back a memory from long ago. The memory is so clear, and it is obvious it was brought on by the scent. Most of the time the scent is not something I can name, just a scent that connects me to my past. It gives me a good feeling. :thumb:

You know Doc, when I first read this post I was moving on to another when I kinda thought about it. The leather in a new truck is a very nice smell, I love freshly mowed grass, but a whiff of a girlfriends perfume when I was 17 almost caused a flashback. Had not even thought of her name in 20 years or more, but man I remeber that perfume. Sweet.

Exactly. That's what I'm talking about. :D :thumb:

It is funny how scents will bring back old memories. Songs will do that to me to but the scent thing is one that I overlook the most. Now I will keep an open nose to catch more of the scents.

Growing up, at times spending time with my Baba (grandmother) and mom during the holidays (at Baba's house) they would make paska (bread) and cookies. They would make the dough, and let it sit overnight to rise in the living room. Coming down those stairs, smelling that dough, it was good enough to eat before it ever made it to the oven! Used to get up early and sneak downstairs so I could get a knife and cut a couple of pieces of fresh dough to eat.

When I was dating my wife at the time, who is a very good cook, my dad got me the recipe for the paska (mom since died), she made it, smelled EXACTLY like I rememberd (sp?) it. I had already knew she was the one I wanted to marry, but that was one of a couple of things that topped it off.

I remember when I was around 15, going to Minnesota. A remote lake in the middle of nothing. The smell of the pine trees, the lake and fresh air was great! I miss it.

Believe it or Not.
I'm a city boy (bricks and asphalt) I grew up in a rooming house, I actually had to walk 1/4 mile to a housing project to find a blade of grass.

From my earliest years my folks would drive to my mother's cousin's farm in Canada and leave me there for a month. There, I had two girl cousins and two boy cousins to play with.

They were pretty poor, no indoor plumbing, heating and cooking was done on the kitchen wood stove. They had two dozen dairy cows, pigs, sheep and goats. All the work was done by horse drawn equipment.

Those times were some of the best of my childhood memories, and to this day when I pass a farm and smell the manure all those memories come home.

Feel free to have a good laugh on me, but I'm not kidding.

Not laughing at all RK. My memories of my grandma's country place, certain smells I associate with it ...when the smell surprises me it's always a pleasant warming feeling. Just makes ya feel good all over, or can put you in a good mood / better mood. All from a scent. :thumb:

RK, I don't mind the smell of cow crap at all, being raised on a farm. I like the smell of gas, glue and magic markers. :smileywac I also like the smell of cheap perfume on women and the smell of diesel engines.

My fav scent since I was a kid is Jasmine.

If anyone laughs at RoadKing they might just as well laugh at me. Beleive it or not I love the smell of manure/shit. I can smell a harvest, fresh cut hay or a plowed field a mile away. Oh yes, diesel fuel too.

But I hate the smell of a dairy parlor. I hated milking:puke1:

Now you're not talking memories, you're talking fantasies:yum: :yum:

I scanned these photos in for a family project my granddaughter was doing.

Here are the images that go along with the smells.

Can you find the cityboy in pic #1

Hint: check out the hat:yum: :yum:
