"War" movie

“Brothers” a Danish film with subtitles.

About two brothers, one an ex-con, another a career military officer in the Danish Army.

The career military brother goes off to Afghanistan and leaves his family behind.

Some ways, reminded me of the Deer Hunter. Very effective movie.

Sounds good.

I recently saw "Lord of War" with Nicholas Cage as a weapons dealer from the USSR at the end of the cold war.

Doc, keep in mind, the movie I mentioned takes the same approach at war as did The Deer Hunter IMO. Out of the whole movie, only 15 minutes or so is dedicated to the actual events in the sand box. No big "battles" so to speak, but what you see is very realistic from the characters point of view. One thing about this movie is that is "tackles" a subject that I have NEVER seen a "war movie" try to approach (at first unrealistic in my opinion, but after thinking about it, if put in that same position, who am I to judge). In that end, I think the movie succeeds. When watching it, I told my wife there is no way in hell it would happen, or if it did, what the outcome would be. Sure enough, I was surprised, the movie played out like I thought it would.

It's not a happy movie.

What this movie made me realize for the first time is that it dose't matter what nation you are from when you're in war, war in itself has the same effect upon all those who participate in it.

A different perspective and interesting.

It could well of been an American produced film with American characters.

Yeah, that's what i thought you meant.
The Nicholas Cage movie is not a happy movie either. It also shows sides and reasons for wars that I had not considered. Far far from a happy movie.

Another you may want to catch is "Der Untergang" aka "The Downfall". A very good film.
It's a German film (sub-titled in English) that plays out the last few days of Hitler's life.
