The cabin remodel

IMG_3211.jpeg

The right side of the cabin and what I can get between my driveway and the forest service road will be next trip, then back on the cabin after that. Worse season opening yet. At least most of the dead trees are down now and it will get easier year over. The COOT was a lifesaver and wouldn’t have got nearly as much done without it, both tree dragging and carrying materials for the spring pipe repair, the alternative would have been a lot more time consuming. It was also handy to just get around the property a lot faster. The extended trips are the way to go, I got more done than any 3 trips put together in the passed. Next trip will be 2 weeks, and really get shit done.

Me and the little boy are headed back to the work cabin for another round of abuse tomorrow, I’m going for about 2 weeks this time, at first job will be cutting up the down trees I didn’t get last time into burn piles. If it goes well there are still a few standing that can be cut down. Last trip got the place opened up for the season so maybe lil get back on the inside fairly quickly. I’ll make posts while I’m there but have to wait until I return to post the pictures.

any progress is good progress!

Got here Saturday, knocked some trees down with the loader, then started the big clean up, worked thru Tuesday on that, then switched to the ceiling, still have a little to finish but as I cut the trees down, I’m working more in direct sunlight, even though it’s in the high 70’s it’s brutal. Friday thru Sunday coming up it should drop to the high 50’s- low 60’s I’ll finish it then.

Got the insulation done on the whole ceiling along with the spacer boards, tomorrow it cools down into the 50’s and 60’s for a few days, so I’m going to finish the dead tree cutting and piling, likely won’t see those temps again til fall, might as well take advantage of it.

Worked in the cabin again today, the wind is a constant 30 mph with gusts, not good for tree cutting, went to a local lumber yard here as I am doing a fake exposed beam ceiling in the modified from porch to living space. The joists don’t line up with the joist in the main cabin and was going to cause me anxiety, so I added lower ones that line up and when done you won’t see the originals. While there I ran across all the 6” v groove tongue and groove cedar boards I need for the interior plus some at a steal lot price, there is about 25% more there in the bundle than I need but still 20% of what I was going to spend at Home Depot for 4” that’s only 1/4” thick, these are 1/2” thick. There is 4050 running feet of 6”, I only need 3000 running feet but it’s a lot price for $1400.00, the other 1000’ I can use to make the container into a guest cabin. Lucky opportunity, as what happened is someone ordered it then never picked it up.
