The 33% Theory

The problem, or difference as I see it between a Revolutionary War then and now is that back then with the third that was Tories they either relocated to England when America declared independence, or they accepted the outcome of the Revolution when we won. The other 33% went with the flow and would have continued as British subjects had we lost, or continued on as free Americans. It didn’t matter one way or the other to them.

Back then wars were fought differently than they are today as well. Those who we would be fighting against are far better equipped; both in arms and in the tools available to monitor and provide them with intel on our actions. Gone are the days of two armies standing toe to toe like boxers in a ring shooting at each other. Gone are the days where you could freely communicate plans and strategies without too much fear of enemy interception. With almost all internet traffic monitored by the NSA and their ability to track all phone conversations it would be next to impossible to communicate and share strategies if a revolution were to break out. The next time something like that happens, if it ever does, it will be more like a Red Dawn scenario; small bands of rebels doing whatever they could to demoralize and strike back.

Not saying we couldn’t win, but it would be a far different kind of war, and it would turn family against family very much like the Civil War did.

Plus back then when the 1/3 who remained loyal to England accepted the outcome of the Revolution I am not so certain the current 1/3 would accept it if we won and reinstated a constitutional government. How would they react if all their benefits were suddenly cut off? What would we do with the millions who rely upon government for their sustenance? We would have social unrest the likes of which we have never seen. Riots would become the norm as people fought to restore what they believe themselves to be entitled to receive, or that society owed them.

I’m not saying the cause isn’t worth fighting for, just the the times have changed; making things much more difficult to predict should it ever come to revolution. It’s something I have both talked to other about, and given much personal thought to; and the truth is I don’t have any clear idea of how it would play out should it happen.

A very real possibility isn't it? No matter who should win the battle they still could have very well "Lost the War". :hammer:

I'm one of those who believes that civil war is inevitable. Only the questions of when and who remain.

The real issue is where the standing military would be. Virtually all revolutions involved the military and it's by no means certain that our armed forces would side with the government.
