Syrian Forces Strike Druze Syrian Citizens City, Israel destroys Syrian Government Buildings

President Trump recently met with and lifted sanctions against the leaders of Syria and the Syrian nation.

Syria claimed it wanted peace and relations with Israel.

Israel has a large Druze population, they are a (to me) odd sect that broke away from Islam but practice (to me) a lot of strange things. The Druze in Israel are very loyal to Israel. The Druze in Syria seem to also be aligned more with Israel than with radical Islam.

Syria then attacked some of the Druze inside Syria.

So Isreal sent them a warning.

Israel also issued a statement to tell (Druze) people NOT to cross from Israel into Syria.

Lebanon's military is stopping Druze from crossing from Lebanon into Syria.

Syrian forces are taking Druze men off the streets.

Looks to me like Israel, for better or worse, is engaging in a real war with Syria over the Syrian's attacks against Syrian Druze communities. As the Druze are often loyal to Israel, Israel apparently decided to go into Syria to slap them down. Will this end up being another 12 day war like Israel had with Iran? Or, because the Druze population exists in several different nations, with this become a quagmire for Israel?

They are all nuts over there.
That's all I know.

Pretty much true.

But if the Syrian Muslims are trying to commit Genocide against the Druze, one must suspect that the "Free Palestine" college protestors are going to jump on this cause too and start having Free Druze protests soon. Right?

RIGHT?

Or will they support GENOCIDE because the Druze oppose Sharia Law?

Thanks Bob. Great reporting!!!!!

Various reports are saying that the Druze, in one of their major cities within Syria, are now back in control.

For those who care less about the Druze, or Syria, if you happen to be Christian, you may want to begin to care simply for one fact. Where there are Druze living in peace in Syria, there are also usually Christians living along side them. So the two communities, while having very different religious beliefs, live cooperatively in harmony in the same areas.

You can follow the last few links to read more.

I had to do some digging. The translation cites that several village have been freed from the "hijri gangs" in the praise of Allah. Turns out the groups are saying that they attacked the Druze villages.

Both of these videos postings are date stamped today. So it will be interesting to see if Israel jumps in again with more defensive support for the Druze.

The second video, indicates that the fighting is ongoing in the main Druze city inside Syria, the attacks on this city prompted Israel to mount its initial attack on Syria.

For those who are not familiar, Israel 'occupies' the Golan Heights. This is land that Israel conquered in a war against Syria and Israel has been building settlements in that region for decades. Israel claimed the land as part of their territory after the war. The U.N. and Syria claim it is an illegal occupation.

There are Druze population centers to the East and Southeast of the Golan Heights region and I have to wonder if, perhaps, Israel is going to push for another land grab and attempt to annex more lands. It would be a major undertaking to do so, as the region is MUCH larger than the currently claimed Golan Heights area.

But it also looks like there is significant support from the Druze community inside Syria for Israel. One would suspect that the Christian community, which lives alongside the Druze, might also join with Israel, as the Druze areas are NOT subject to Sharia laws. I can't find much information about the Christian population in Syria after the fall of the prior regime.

This map shows the Golan Heights, Israel, Joran, Syria, Lebanon and highlights the areas where the Druze live.

Should Israel push to the Northeast toward Damascus, the capital of Syria, it would expand its border with Lebanon and push its territory very close to Damascus. It would also have a contiguous area to annex, that would generally be controllable via ground forces.

Should Israel try to push east to defend Suweida, the main Druze city in Syria, there his no contiguous land to travel to defend the city or the surrounding Druze region, which is the largest Druze region/population area in the world.

Logically, if Israel is looking to ally with Israel, it needs to align with both the northern area along the Lebanese border pushing toward Damascas and the Suweida area in the southern area of Syria.

To my simple mind these are 2 very different problems with 2 very different solutions.

Problem 1 is the north, and a simple invasion by Israel should be able to take that land with ground forces and air support, combined and coordinated with the local Druze population. Annex that area like the Golan Heights and call it part of Israel.

Problem 2 is the area of Suweida. Perhaps Israel could support a Druze rebellion and a break-away territory so that the Druze form their own nation? That might be politically easier for the U.N. to stomach and might be easier for Israel to manage.

The Syrian military is now attacking the most populous Druze city of Suweida and apparently offering up threats to Israel.

And the Muslims who live in the Druze city seem to be fleeing the city. That area is also a safe haven for Christians but there seems to be very little news about the Christians leaving or fighting.

There are plenty of reports of both Lebanese and Israeli Druze citizens crossing out of Lebanon and Israel to join the fight to protect the Syrian Druze.

Looks a lot like sectarian violence.

Here the Bedouin are killing the Druze

Here the Druze are killing the Bedouin

Tit for Tat?

And Turkey is claiming that Israel is using the Druze/Bedioun conflict as a pretext to expand their footprint and claim more territory for Israel. Honestly that does seem plausible to me.

The U.S. Ambassador to Syria announced a ceasefire agreement between Syria and Israel, and called on both the Bedouins and the Israeli-backed Hijri Druze militia to lay down their weapons.Israel had already declared that it does not want any Syrian military presence in Quneitra and Suwayda. If this agreement ensures the Syrian army remains absent, then

The goal behind activating the Israeli backed Druze militia was twofold:
1 - To provoke a war with the Syrian government (failed)
2 - To restrict all weapons to the Syrian state, a state that is not even allowed to maintain a military presence in Quneitra and Suwayda (if that is what the agreement states).
This move mainly targets the Hourani tribes, who had previously clashed with the Israeli army as it advanced toward their villages and halted its progress in the Daraa countryside.

Meanwhile in Germany there are celebrations in the streets, not by Germans, but by the invaders who they welcome in to destroy their culture and their nation.

And in Turkey they are interviewing Islamists who are going to Syria to kill the Druze (and Christians)

English language commentary:

This is beyond brutal to watch, if you don't want to see people shot dead, do not watch:

Israel official steps it up . . . Mount Hermon is adjacent to Lebanon, north of the Golan Heights region that Israel already occupies, and close to, but west of the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Much of the Druze (and Christian) slaughter and fighting is happening many miles south of there is a different region of Syria. So there are essentially 2 regions of fighting with no contiguous border/land bridge to the southern area of conflict surrounding the major Druze city of Suwayda, also referred to as Sweida.

Syrian Ceasefire Threatened after Mass Killings; Conflicting Narratives over Violence in Judea, Samaria

ap25201473592000_0.jpg
JERUSALEM, Israel – The ceasefire in Syria is on the brink of collapse after reports of mass atrocities against the Druze. Meanwhile, tensions are running high in Judea and Samaria, with conflicting narratives about Jewish residents and acts of violence.
In Syria’s Sweida province, the ceasefire is rapidly deteriorating. More than 1,000 civilians have been killed – mostly Druze, but also Christians. Among the dead: Pastor Khaled Mzher of the Good Shepherd Evangelical Church, murdered along with his entire extended family by pro-regime jihadist militias in As-Suwayda. The atrocity has mobilized outrage across Israel’s 150,000-strong Druze community, many of whom are demanding action.
Saleh Rafa Majdal, an Israeli Druze, told CBN News, "I can't stay still watching. My relatives, my people, have been slaughtered without doing anything. I know I don't have military experience, but at least I will do what I can to help my people."
Israel has responded with emergency medical aid, and the military has also continued sporadic airstrikes in defense of the beleaguered Druze in Sweida. But Muslim countries like Turkey are condemning Israel's involvement.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intoned, "I want to state this once again clearly and directly, Israel is a lawless, unruly, unprincipled, spoiled, pampered, and desperate terrorist state."
In Judea and Samaria, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited the Christian village of Taybeh this weekend after fires damaged its ancient church and cemetery. Some say the fires were started by Arabs targeting Israeli farmland, but local leaders continue to blame Jewish settlers.
Huckabee said he was there "(To express) solidarity with the people who just want to live their lives in peace, to be able to go to their own land, to be able to go to their place of worship.”
Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem, stated, "Simple people, farmers, are under attack from those radical groups that they take the law into their own hands and do all sorts of things."
However, Jewish community leaders argue that accusations of violence are exaggerated. They say their communities are the ones under constant threat.
Naomi Kahn, international director of the research think tank Regavim, noted, "The Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria are victimized, constantly bombarded, constantly, by Arab terrorism and violence. And in response to the level of violence perpetrated by Jews, although it is unfortunately not zero, and it should be, and we're working on getting it to zero, in comparison to the number of people in the population, it's something like 0.056."
Israelis living in Judea and Samaria say many of the reported "attacks" on Palestinians are simply Jews defending themselves from Palestinian-initiated violence. But the UN reports it as such because they have an agenda.
Kahn told us, "By undermining the legitimacy of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, you clear the way for creating a Palestinian state and you undermine the settlers and you essentially tarnish the moral standing of Israel's army."
With Syria's ceasefire crumbling and both narratives and tensions flaring across Judea and Samaria, the region looks headed into another volatile and unpredictable week.
