spring project!

going to be turning a booth seat into an outdoor bench for the porch. ill get pics up soon. im basically just going to sand stain and sealcoat it. anyone done something like this?
 
"spar varnish" will last longer outside if you go the polyurethane route over an oil finish. (UV inhibitors built in)
If you go with an oil based finish, thin your first coat about 50/50 with mineral spirits (or whatever they print on the can as an acceptable thinner) so you get better penetration.
3 coats total should do you good.
the cheap black foam brushes dissolve in oil based stains and finishes, and the cheap china bristle chip brushes at Harbor Freight shed, so I don't recommend using either of them.
