Snowmaster #1656 rebuild

I’m wondering if any one has rotated the brake assembly by 180 degrees, and kept it from rotating by locating a tab (with an opening similar to that on the skid pan) to the (stiffener?) shelf that runs horizontally fore and aft above the axle. This will also require rotating and perhaps modifying the hand brake attach fitting, but little else unless I’ve missed something. Seems like a good solution if one wanted to eliminate the skid pan (to provide easier access to the oil drain plug, oil filter, etc. on the Subaru engine that will be installed. Let me know what you think.

My brakes (entire assembly) were missing when I got my st. I came up with my version of a disc brake system. They are held from rotating by a bar across the top that is mounted, with reinforcement, to the "shelf". works well enough for my purposes. I couldn't go down as the muffler and the brake disc are in the way.

As to the skid pan. The skid pan is not optional unless you only drive on hard pack. even with the skid pan my engine compartment has filled with snow and slush in a few circumstances.
