Sherlock Holmes - Better than I thougt it would be.

Growing up I read all the Sherlock Holmes stories by AC Doyle and

I've seen most of the tv and film versions from the terrible Basil Rathbone

series to the much better series the BBC did in the 70's. When I saw the previews

for this movie, starring Robert Downey jr. (not one of my faves) it looked

like it was going to suck big time. I took a chance and went anyway. Well,

it's not your father's Sherlock Holmes but they included a lot of references

from the original (even if they took liberties with them). It was entertaining.

If you're a movie goer, go see it. If you're a shut-in NetFlixer, add it to

your queue when it comes out.

The movie did not hold my interest long enough to finish watching it. I d/l'd it last night - and had high expectations - only to close VLC.. and go to bed. As many on other sights point out, the movie did not live up to the hype.

For starters, the two stars should have switched roles. Jude Law could have pulled off a Sherlock Holmes that one would have wanted to see in this movie and even in some sequels. Plus, Downey could have done Watson as a rumpled genius who gave more support than is generally known.

Maybe I liked it because I was expecting it to suck. If I had been expecting it to be good, which I

didn't based on the previews, I would have been disappointed.

Took the wife and went with friends to see it. Was different and very fast paced. Mixed review as I liked some of it but parts of it were a little predictable.

My family watched it. We all enjoyed it. Not what I was expecting, he was more like a drugged up super-hero fighter than the brainiac master of deduction and observation but it was still a pretty good movie. Not great. I guess going in with modest expectations helped because we were all pleasantly surprised.
