Retiring in Tennessee?

We're thinking of retiring to Tennessee in 5-7 years. Pros and cons??

Our reasoning is that we can find a home on a lake that we can afford, lower taxes, no taxes on our retirement money, etc...

I'm more worried about healthcare because I'm a two-time cancer survivor.

Tennesse is a great state in which to visit and live. Especially the eastern part. Quality of life L is awesome there.
Also, if you are worried about another cancer bout, more reason to enjoy life now!

My husband has relatives in Fairfield Glade, so we've been scoping out properties to get a feel for what's out there. The HOA is concerning because we've never dealt with anything like that before.

That's in a good part of the state. Nice terrain, hills and some mountains. Smokies just a few miles away. Great people there.

As Franc said Tennessee is awesome. HOA's are a nightmare. I would avoid them at all costs. Even if you have to buy a bit further away, NO HOA. JMHO.
