Report Your Snow Depth

Got dusted this morning.

In spots.

Not even enough to make footprints. Just enough to piss me off. Tucker needs a test drive.

Gimme a blizzard, damnit.

And lots of Ibuprofen.

Mentally I'm sharp. Physically I'm in pretty good shape. But arthritis sucks. I can only continue coaching by using painkillers. Mostly over the counter. But I have hopes of reducing the pain pills, got another doctor's appointment on Tuesday and looking to see if a change is meds might be in order. One of the non-arthritis meds I have prescribed is known to cause pain, so maybe .

Ibuprofen, acetaminophen...they work by different pathways. One fools your brain to ignore the pain, the other is anti-inflammatory aimed at the source. Sometimes I'll take one of each before bed so I don't toss and turn all night trying to get comfortable. Both over time can F-up your liver or kidneys. Choose your poison.
Unfortunately modern medicine today is all about Big Pharma and what pill to take. Correcting the root cause is still a big challenge.
I will vote for meds, PT, etc., vs last resort surgery...which can be kind of iffy.
Meanwhile live on!

Chicago forecast for Sunday night to Monday morning.

LOL

Winter finally showed up. Spent Monday and Tuesday at my cabin in anticipation of of a predicted snow fall. First dump of the year, a good 4" or so. Fired up the Imp and plowed my driveway...just because I can.
On top of that, my battery finally took a dump but I can start it with the aid of one of those battery pack jump start thingies (they are quite nice and serve the purpose well).

It is JUST STARTING here in Antrim County Michigan.

Tucker needs a test-drive. He has a fresh engine, new clutch and many hours of turning wrenches.

............. I can't wait!!!

Yeah it's coming, we snow heads just have to be patient. I love winter and isolating myself at my off grid cabin and tooling around in the ol' Imp. Got an 82 year old neighbor a mile up the path living full time there and usually stranded all winter long. Gives me a reason to motor up to his place and offer whatever I can.

ZERO snow at the moment.

Temp is 19(F)

Prediction for our next snowfall is now 3" to 12"

Supposed to start at 4am (Central time) Saturday morning . . . Supposed to end before Noon on Sunday.

So, depending on the neighbor you talk to it is either a world ending apocalypse or something to shrug off.

Flurries but no accumulation a couple days ago. And we had a 10" snowfall about 2 weeks ago, but temps warmed up 2 days laters and it started a quick melt into a mini-mud season. Since then the temps dropped enough, and stayed low enough that the ground is cold and that now a new snow is going to stick . . . if we get enough to worry about. I've got eggs, milk, Wonder Bread and enough bourbon that there is really no snow big enough for me to worry about.

It is 3:30 AM and the first inch of four is on the ground.
Wet snow that is sticking soft to everything.
Morning sunrise will be awesome.

We got 6-and 1/2-inches last night. A very dense wet snow.
Every tree and bush drooping to the ground.
One umbrella pole bent.
Rain & sleet to follow.
UCK!

Had that happen last year about this time, but it was closer to at least 2 feet of early season wet snow. Bent over/broke off multiple trees along the road to my cabin that I had to deal with. This is why God made chainsaws. I've got only maybe 5" from last Wednesday's little dump. Hoping it will be a more gradual accumulation this season. Whatever, it got me another half cord of wood to burn next winter after it dries out.

Sitting with 6” right now, National Weather Service says I have more. They claim 8-10". Frozen crust on top. Expecting 1-3” more on Monday night-into Tuesday morning. I wish we had more! View is from early this morning t after I cleared the driveway last night, so maybe 1" more after I cleared it?

We got some good drifting yesterday evening and last night. Crusted over and no more drifting today.

My puppy and I are still waiting for some good snow beyond our meager 8". Didn't stop us from coming up with the express intention of replacing the battery in the Imp. And of course spending the night with a warm fire, good book, and good whiskey.

We got 2 more inches yesterday afternoon/evening while I was at fencing. I have no idea how much more came down after I got home, but I was home about 8:15 and the snow was supposed to end about midnight. So maybe 1 more inch on top of the 6 to 8 we already had.

I did notice, the Chicago south suburbs had less than I have at home, crossed back into Indiana and the increase was noticeable, especially to the farther south.

Trying to figure out how to squirm out of going to Purdue tonight. Not supposed to get any additional snow, roads should all be cleared by this evening, I'm just being lazy.

Powder snow...the real light stuff...is kind of rare here. Mostly just what we call "Cascade crud". But then I run at a meager 3600' elevation, not 10,000' like some of you.
Major atmospheric river upon us again, with temperatures rising. My paltry maybe 8" will probably condense down quite a bit. Need some of that polar vortex to slide a bit further west.

Finally starting to get some snow here in the Elk Mts. in Colorado. We’ve got about 3’ on the ground, enough for me to track-pack the 5-mile road to our cabin today. Now we’ve got a nice base on the road to work with.

We welded two broken grousers yesterday, snapped another one today. Gotta love the grousers on the 1500! 👎

If it’s any consolation, I was crawling over rocks in 6” of snow at the trailhead at 8,000’. The 3’ of snow is up at 11,000’. 😉

Crawling on rocks = breaking grousers I would guess. My logging road is in pretty good shape. Still waiting for my normal 3' of white stuff to accumulate at 3700 feet elevation. I would have to carry supplemental oxygen at 11,000!
Enjoy!
