Some great pictures of the battle going on around the Red River. These people aren't hanging around in the stadiums waiting for the government to "save" them. They are fighting mother nature! :respect:

Red River flooding

The Red River is approaching record flood levels, likely to break century-old records this weekend. Flowing north toward Manitoba along the Minnesota-North Dakota border, the river is jammed up by ice and is being fed by rain, snow and meltwater. The National Weather Service has issued projections of a crest of 43 feet near Fargo, North Dakota, 24 feet above flood stage. Volunteers and national guardsmen are out in force, building levees, rescuing and evacuating those that need to get to higher ground. Cold temperatures are hampering efforts, freezing damp sandbags and making the job that much more strenuous for volunteers. 800 more National Guard troops and 150 Red Cross personnel are arriving in the area this weekend. (30 photos total)

Great pix! That last one, the dirty-faced kid really was the icing.

Oh, there were a BUNCH of people in a stadium............they were filling sandbags in there. That's the FargoDome, site of Monster truck ralleyes, concerts, sporting events, and, floodfighting.

Just heard on the news, the river crested some 2' lower than they'd diked for.

It's gonna take a long time for the crest to go down though.

The pictures with the helicopters are taken by Bismarck during the process of blowing up the ice jam which were successful and the water is going down in Bismarck.

The college my youngest daughter goes to offered up a bus if students wanted to up to Fargo and help sand bag. The school ended up sending 4 buses.

Great pics PB!!
Umm yeah, quite a difference between these folks and the occurrences during Katrina.
Sheesh..

Hurricane Katrina and the floods of last fall as well as in 1993 can’t compare to what these people in North Dakota are going through. The Red River water is so cold that death can result in just a few minutes where in the other floods, at least you could wade in the water. All our hopes and prayers go out to these valiant people and to the volunteers fighting the freezing water.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I was worried about you folks in North Dakota. It was scary to think what might have happened. I just wish the snow would end for you.
