Muskeg Transplant

Dropped a 6cyl Isuzu into my partially restored Muskeg hull today, looks like it's going to fit. Next step is to finish the drive shaft so I can make up some motor mounts.

How much added HP and torque is that going to add to the muskeg? Will the rest of the drive train handle the extra if there is a big difference or will you be upgrading the tranny, etc next?

Noticed that you are running the 9 tooth pinion you can also run a 6/35 tooth
if you find you need to. you must have final drives that is normally when you run the 9 tooth. early 70's machine ? or later

The trans comes with the engine, 5 speed. The pinion is for mock up only, will run a 6 tooth. The machine was a carrier ( eng in frt)late sixties in it's previous life, with a drop box from trans to diff ( with a reduction) I believe otherwise it would have been pretty fast. But it was dead so I never got a test drive it in that cofiguration.
If I had more hull length I would consider using a NP 205 transfer case in between , the hi lo would be nice and keep the 9 tooth.
Boggie have you seen many 9tooth pinions being used, and do they stand up better than the 6, since the load is spread on more teeth ?

J5 Bombardier, The only time we have seen them used was with the use of the final drives they do not seem to last longer. infact I think their life is shorter. we actually have converted many 9 tooth to 6 tooth to get more torque. since the Muskegs typically are not used for speed but for pulling and crawling along. one nice consideration is the use of a automatic in some swamp conditions it makes the difference of staying on top or falling through we have been in some swamps that as you went through the swamp if you lost momentem when you shifted you were done. In some as you cross you will be pushing a wake of floating bog as you drive.
