Motorcycle visibility and safety

Looking to stay alive while you ride?

Need a winter project to upgrade you bike?

Read this. Then install WIDE ANGLE lights on your bike that create a triangle pattern with your headlamp. You can slow down so you don't outride your headlights but you need other vehicles to see you. 3 lights, in the shape of a triangle, might be your best bet.

I have Denali wide beam DRL LED lights on my bikes. Wide beam so they can be seen from various angles. Non-glare so they don't blind oncoming traffic. But damn bright and visible.

I started working tward yellow/ limegreen coat and helmet.
I got the yellow helmet but havent found a coat that fits me properly .

Around here it isn't that people do not see them, they just don't give a damn.
Honestly I think people are so wrapped up in their cell phone screens while they are driving that they simply don't see the road. There seem to be more accidents of ALL types. But pedestrians, bikes and motorcycles seem to be particularly vulnerable to getting hit.

Higher visibility is a plus. A "bigger" visual appearance is better.

Higher visibility colors on riders, added visibility specifically ultra-wide-angle conspicuity lights are a plus. Focused beam spot lights don't seem to be a big help except for drivers straight in front of the motorcycle.

And then Treat Williams gets killed in a motorcycle crash yesterday. :(

While data indicates that most motorcyclists tend to kill themselves in single vehicle accidents, when it comes to multi-vehicle accidents, this is one of the most common and most fatal types.

Car/Truck turns in front of a bike, crossing in front of the bike and causing a collision. Most common type of response from the driver is "I didn't even see the motorcycle" and this is why there have been studies on conspicuity lights, hi-viz gear, etc.

I think there’s even a name for that, can’t remember now. They look at you and ignore you. Just dismiss you as something irrelevant.

When I’m on my bike I ride like everyone is out to kill me, Like I’m invisible. Brights on all the time. I hate 2 lane state highways with cross roads…
