Marley and Thunder

Exactly. That's pretty much the deal. They want to make sure the dog will be properly cared for. We have a side door off the kitchen with a set of steps that goes down to a fully fenced in dog run around 10x20 with 5ft chain link fencing. And a 2400 square foot 5 bedroom 4 bathroom house on 5.8 acres of property in the country. If that isn't good enough, then they can suck it.

After all, they rescue these dogs mostly from northern native reserves with no hydro or running water. Anything is better than the conditions they come from.
Did they ask if there were any guns in the house or domestic violence? I got bit by a cat some years ago and the emergency room started asking questions like that.

Here's an earlier picture showing the markings on her

All the arrangements have been made. Looks like they have someone coming this way today from where the dog is located in a foster home. We're still undecided as to whether to keep the name "mira" or change it. We shall see.

On a sadder note, we discovered a hard lump on Marleys throat that Started out a few days ago as the size of a pea. Now it's the size of a grape. I brought her to the vet yesterday and they poked it to see if it was an abscess. It isn't. So they took a biopsy and sent it out.

This little girl has stolen our hearts. We got her Friday. She is fitting in nicely with our other two dogs and is learning to follow them outside and use the washroom. At night, she sleeps in a kennel with Marley, our almost 12 year old and sleeps through the night. She still has some separation anxiety being left alone but I have been working on that with her. She is very smart and already knows basic commands such as sit no come... Very smart for 8 weeks. Our oldest girl can't be off leash but Cooper can. So I have been bringing both Cooper and Honey (the kids decided on a name change) outside to play in the yard. It's not fenced so I teach them to stay close.

She's getting a bit bigger but still tiny. So far she is a very quick learner. I usually only have to tell her once to not do something. She's pretty much house trained and sleeps throughout the night in a kennel in our bedroom. I bought her a collar this week. She barely made a fuss about it. She isn't a barker. Our other two will bark when someone comes to the door or they go outside. She doesn't make a sound. She plays hard with Cooper and sleeps with Marley. Cooper growls at her occasionally to show his displeasure about something and she'll dish it right back. That's the only time she barks.

Any thoughts on what these bald red spots could be? She's had them since we got her as a puppy in October. She's also got a small patch under her lower jaw.

Possible food allergies. No other spots noticeable. I bought an all natural gel to treat it. It appears to give her some relief even though she has never really yelped when touching the spots before. I'll try this for now and keep an eye on it as she's already booked in for a spay in March.

We finally bit the bullet and got her into a vet on Friday. Surprisingly, we called at 2:30 and they had an opening for 3:30 that day. $370 cheaper and a skin swab later we left with 3 pills for her to take. Once a month to treat demodex mange. They said it's a mild non contagious form of mange in puppies that they can normally overcome with their own immune systems but sometimes they require extra medical assistance.

Fast forward 3 yrs. We gave that little dog all the love we could. Put her through training. But right from day 1, she was a nervous dog scared of her own shadow. This wasn't a good thing with the other two dogs as she would often attack without warning and cause significant vet bills for our other two dogs. We contacted the rescue a few months ago where we adopted her and surrendered her so they could find her a home where she is an only dog.

So since we surrendered Honey(we had renamed her), my wife was adamant that we wouldn't get another dog until our oldest dog Marley passes away. Well, she is 15 yrs old, full of lumps and bumps and is skin n bones. The morning joke in our house now is....Oh Marley, you're still alive. Let's go outside then...). I hadn't been paying attention to any ads for dogs as I had received orders from upper management not to look. Then she sends me this ad..... 2yrs old. Black lab mix. 39lbs. Female well behaved. I started filling out an online application for her as it's the same rescue where we got Cooper. So a local rescue. I wake up this morning and find out that my wife has already applied for her last night. We'll see what happens.

So, minutes after posting the pictures earlier, I saw an ad for the rescue listing all their dogs that they had in care and were going to be present at a local pet store today for meet n greets. "Jojo" (that's her name) was going to be there. Perfect. We made plans to drive our youngest son to work then head there to meet her.

She's a very calm very well behaved dog. Very smooth coat. Nice clean teeth. You can just tell she was full of love. We spoke a bit with the people there and they were taking notes about our property and home. They have several applications apparently for her. We'll see what happens.

The same rescue listed another batch of dogs they are working to rehome from up north. I had kinda eyed one pup but didn't think much else of it and continued on about my day when my wife sent me a link to the same dog I was looking at. Before I knew it, online application was filled out, contact made with the shelter who connected me with the foster where he is staying. We are going to see him and pick him up saturday for a trial adoption. He's going for his shots on friday and will be neutered at the cost of the shelter in the near future. His name is Cojo. (but we may rename him Coco). He's 1 yr old. Looks to be a golden retriever sheppard mix.

Omg. He's gorgeous. Very well behaved. A little bit excited around other dogs at the pet store where we went to meet him. He knows basic commands sit stay etc. His name was kojo but he doesn't appear attached to it. We will call him coco. We're doing a trial adoption.

I've had huskies in the past. They like to run... and run... and run... How are you going to keep him around the house?

We've got a 12x20 dog run outside right off our kitchen with it's own door. So that's where he'll be outside untied. So far, he listens very well and has been a gentle giant without a mean bone in his body. Marley, the oldest and smallest dog, prefers things to be quiet. I tried playing fetch with him with a rope and she wasn't having and part of it and told him so. He immediately backed off. So far, they have been getting along for the mostpart. He slept in our bedroom last night on the floor while cooper was in bed with us. Not a peep all night.

Just a couple pictures. Things are settling down. He's quickly learning the rules of the house ie. what he can and can't do. The other pups are learning to tolerate him as is he learning his place in the pack. Cooper kinda rules the roost until marley says what what and puts them both in their place.

The rescue just listed his mother for adoption. She's approximately 2yrs old and weighs the same as Coco. And wouldn't you know it. Her name is honey. Definitely has husky golden retriever and Sheppard in her.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So we've decided we're keeping Coco as we were only on a trial adoption I've already got him and our 8yr old Cooper running around outside off leash listening to every command I give them. So, as he is part husky I got to thinking.....

And this was an actual text between my wife and I...
