Jump starting a six volt tractor

Is it possible, without great damage, to jump a six volt battery with a jumper pack? Seems like no way but I'll ask. Thanks!

I've done it with 2 people one holding key or start button on / down and the one clamp on battery the other other touching clamp to frame.
Turn off or pull fuses all except for coil and starter circuit if there was anything else.
Obliviously make sure it is polarized correctly some old stuff was positive ground.
Remove frame connection as soon as it starts.

I didn't blow any thing up.

engine spins fast

and this was with a 12v truck battery.

Thank you! This is an old tractor (Farmall Super C) that has positive ground. I guess just put the positive clamp on the frame. Thanks!!!

You will put a strain on the coil and the six volt battery when you do this.

I do it all the time on my '37 9N ford tractor. It is better if you just turn on the ignition and jump the starter motor. Easy to do on the tractor, not sure about your toy.
Put your negative clamp on the terminal stud of the starter and yes, the positive clamp on the frame.

Just hook your jumper box or cables directly to the starter at the cable connection. This keeps 12 volts away from the battery & the chance of a arc or explosion from battery gasses.

I have converted many 6 volt systems over to 12 volt. Change out the ign coil to a 12 volt one, install a Delco 10SI one wire alternator, and change any lighting over to 12 volt bulbs.

You can leave the 6 volt starter as it is. It will spin faster, the engine will start quicker, and the starter won't overheat because it's only on for an instant.

My 1200 cc 40hp snow track still has the 6 volt starter. I have 12 volt batteries in it. It spins fast . I would jump the starter and not the battery
