Isaac aims for New Orleans

muleman

Gone But Not Forgotten
Starting to gain strength now and moving real slow. Could be a major storm till it comes ashore. Drilling rigs have shut down about 80% of production in the gulf. Jindal has announced he will stay home to deal with the storm rather than go to Tampa. Much of the coast between Florida and Texas have mandatory evac orders to try to avoid the loss of life like Katrina caused. Refineries are shutting down which will drive gas prices even higher.

Isaac is coming!

Squerly at hurricane central reporting from Pensacola Florida... We were the target yesterday but it looks like Isaac is going to make landfall in New Orleans now instead. That's OK with me, sucks for them.

We started getting the first gusts about 30 minutes and I'll build from there. Rain hasn't started yet but that is expected this afternoon or this evening.

Re: Isaac is coming!

Why aren't you in NC where you should be???

Keep your head low...

Re: Isaac is coming!

We've gotten the first rains coming through. Va usually gets the edges of the rain from any hurricane. Right now clouding and up and thundering.

Re: Isaac is coming!

I can see Tampa from my front porch (yes I can) and after my wife worrying me to death for five days, he has passed us by. A bit of rain and enough wind to keep the 'skeeters away. A threat of storm surge at the beach house one more time tonite at high tide.

New Orleans can have him.

Didn't want to leave the office unsupervised in the middle of ciaos. Hard enough to keep them under control during normal conditions, let alone in a hurricane...

Re: Isaac is coming!

My in-laws are in Gulf Breeze, they said Home Depot was empty of all the usual disaster supplies - they bought a plant. They've been through so many Hurricanes that they barely even get flustered anymore.

I've never been able to figure out why everyone is so panicky when there's a storm. What do they do with the plywood for the windows from the last storm? Throw it in the trash?

If I ever lived in that type of area, the first thing I would do is design and build easily removable storm covers for the doors and windows. Then just store them in the garage.

Re: Isaac is coming!

I helped my boy do that at his place in St. Pete 4 years ago. Every one is labeled and all you need is a helper and a cordless drill.

Re: Isaac is coming!

Sorry, I didn't see that Mule had already started a Issac thread. Perhaps a moderator can merge them?

Re: Isaac is coming!

They are predicting a 6-12 ft. storm surge from Pensacola west and a long duration as it hits at high tide. Water will be the big factor and test the new levies around New Orleans.

Re: Isaac is coming!

Did you get all the pink flamingos out of the front yard?
Thanks Mak! Almost forgot the little beggers...

Re: Isaac is coming!

Those damn things are everywhere down in St. Pete. Even in the ghetto areas.

My Brother is in the FWB/Destin area.........hopefully he is ready.

So far not much to report. Wind is picking up a bit but the rain I reported earlier was nothing more than a few showers and stopped as quickly as it started. Most of the models show Isaac hitting NO tomorrow around 2:00 EST.

Last I saw the radar it looked like a lot of the rain on the east coast of Florida was going to swirl in above you into Georgia. That would be a big help to their reservoirs.

Squerly from hurricane central reporting. On the "scary hurricane" scale, this ones a real yawner. But all the normal players are not missing a beat. Jim Cantore is sensationalizing as expected and if we were able to view to the right of his screenshot we would probably see his assistant with a fan and sprinkler, adding some much needed realizium.

Prez is scheduled for an 11:00 press conference where he is expected to blame Bush for the hurricane and to take responsibility for anything positive that may result. 3 young black males have been chosen to be the children that "look just like his son would look like in the middle of a hurricane" if he were to have had a son.

Biden remains chained at home and it's not expected the Prez will take any chances with an early release.

More reports forthcoming as the "Jimmy Carter" of hurricanes strives to achieve a respectfull place in hurricane history...

UPDATE:

This windy wobbler has finally reached 75mph, and in doing so has graduated from tropical storm to full fledged cat 1 hurricane. I've had a few good blasts, (the longest lasting about 10 minutes) but the real attribute of this storm is the RAIN!

I haven'tthis much uncontrolled water since Tammy Faye caught Jimbo feeding salami to church secretary Jessica Hahn.

My Son went out to Navarre earlier and said it was really wild over there. He shot some video so I'll see if I can't get that posted before we head for the lifeboats.

They are saying as slow as it is moving some areas could get over 24" of rain. They think areas inland from the coast are going to see bad flooding. It may even take some rain up the Mississippi far enough to help drought stricken areas and get the river flowing again. They are flooding bad along the S.C. coast from the eastern bands of the storm.

New oleans dosn't really have toworr about Isaac.

The danger has passed.
Nagen and Blayloch are no longer serving the folks in that state.

This short video was taken downtown Pensacola yesterday afternoon. The rail you see is on top of a cement barrier that is about 4' above where the water normally is.
