Hot water heat under concrete floor

I was in a huge garage this week. 50x80 16 ft ceiling. Heated by hot water running through pipes under the floor. I said that must cost a fortune to heat something this size. he said not really. No dollar amounts were mentioned but he raved about this heat. He also put the pipes under his basement floor and bought a heating unit for down there. He said the heat rises and helps heat the whole house.
Very interesting.

If building new I'd sure look into this for a heat source. Sounds fantastic.

Done with a ground source heat pump, it is even economically better.

Expensive up front but likely worth it.

About 15 years ago a neighbor built a house and heated his driveway and he never had to shovel snow. I wondered if cities would some day pick up on this and do it. And interstate highways too..

Yeah, he told me about another guy down the road that did the same with his driveway. Snow and ice be gone. Would be awesome but again, the up front cost would be prohibitive for most.
