FIREFLY + Blu-Ray + HDTV = WOW!!!!

Melen gave me the TV series FIREFLY on Blu-Ray discs for Christmas this year. I'm playing it now. The opening battle scene is JUST AMAZING in full HD resolution. I've got the series on DVD, and even upscaling it on the Blu-Ray player it simply does not compare to the resolution from Blu-Ray discs. WOW. WOW. WOW.

Blu-Ray + HDTV brings a whole new dimension to watching this series. Its one of the best shows ever produced, but its like watching it in 3 D because the picture is so clear with such high detail :thumb:

I just returned some other crap and got the (regular DVD) Firefly series and Serenity movie.

I never saw the series...

Will advise.

it's a fun series.

Yup! Big fan base that actually is growing every year. Hardcore fans are called Browncoats and have charity events, conventions, even cruises. We've not been to any but my daughter and I are pretty hardcore fans, my wife less so but she does enjoy it. We watch it whenever it is on TV, especially when broadcast in HD.

Jan 3 will be the next Serenity showing. It will be broadcast in HD on the SciFi channel.

I'm glad you're having a good time.

But to me, a bunch of guys, all wearing the same jackets, traveling around, having some great adventures and a little bit of good natured trouble just doesn't sound like it would be that much fun...

You'd never catch me doing it.

I especially like the fact that in the first episode Mal had a LeMat revolver for his "space pistol" - little things like that made the series extra special. (still waiting for the next full length feature)

I've made it through 3 of the 4 "Go-Ram" DVD's and can pronounce the show to be a hit at my house.

The wife even likes it. Does anyone know why it got the ax after only 11 (?) aired episodes? Production too expensive?

Firefly was simply not what FOX wanted. It cost about $2M an episode and that is several times more than the cost to produce a 'reality' series episode. The original series aired during the baseball world series and consequenty preempted a few times, further the opening episode that explained the premise was NOT the first episode aired so people had to start in the middle.

Oddly a couple years after production stopped the SciFI channel picked up the rights and played the series in proper order, and played all the episodes that FOX did not air. Because 'new' episodes were aired the series qualified as a 'new' series and it was voted BEST new series on TV.

No studios are planning to produce any new shows or any sequence to Serenity. Fan support is very high and a fan produced movie (Bellflower) will be released in 2009.

Each year in September there are charity airings of the movie; often in college town areas.
