As a farmer and a beef producer this really just pisses me off.

I used to be on a first name basis with most of my beef. I think Alaska gets most of its beef from whoever supplies leather to shoe makers, though.

I get our meat from a local butcher that get's it from local Amish farms no shortages during covid like the markets had.
The only thing that changed you had to pay on line and open your trunk they put it in and closed your trunk and you are on your way no contact. they kept the same model post covid except you can pay cash now and get discount.

One thing I miss about retirement was able to pick up prime/prime plus whole strips wet aged 45 days at around 3 bucks a pound, and sometimes even free.
And they were harvested right there locally.

Gave up on prepackaged beef from the store years ago. When we used to raise cattle, we used to single out one calf and raise it for personal consumption. We'd bring it to the local meat packaging plant and tell them what we wanted and how we wanted it cut. When we got too old, we got out of the cattle business but still bought our meat from the packaging plant which gets their product from local farms. Very, very rarely we will buy a certain cut of CAB (certified Angus beef) from the grocery store when they have it in stock. We usually buy in bulk from the packaging plant when they put certain cuts on special. That's why we have all the freezers that we do. ;)
