Damaged Drywall in Hallway.

Hello:
I had a leak in my roof and it came through the attic onto my ceiling drywall in hallway. I submitted an image because I am not sure if I need to cut out the bad part, or replace the section. I decided to add a attic access door so I will not be redoing the whole ceiling. Advice please. Thank you

If it was me I’d pull the light fixture and begin my dry wall patching at that point. If you size your access hatch large enough there is no reason to replace the drywall with new sheets. Are you going to put in a drop down ladder system?
