Thank you, thank you, thank you for reposting this thread and particularly for cleaning the refuse out of it. In doing the exhaust, were you able to build the pipe out of cylinder #3 without a sharp bend? Did you get a picture?

Thanks for the photos. The last one was the one I was most interested in. The original Kristi pipes I have have an abrupt angle change just beyond the exhaust fitting. I was wondering if it could be done better -- obviously, it can.

WHAT refuse are you speaking of?

Ah. The hoi poloi -- the unwashed and uninitiated masses whose inconsequential murmurings form an irritating background to the pronouncements of a master of the zen of Kristi resurrection. :halo:
Did you mean the Hoi polloi?
Thought so.
There used to be a thread around here where all or some of the RARE Kristi members had their photos included too.
Are you kissing some Kristi ass, Topo Gigio?
Al's thread is nice.. but something about your posts doesn't sit well with me, for umm some reason.:whistling:

I don't mean to "rain on your parade". You've done a really nice job on the restoration and I'll admit right up front I don't know anything about VW engines...

But, if I am looking at the photos correctly, it strikes me that the exhaust headers are perilously close to the fiberglass "tub" (if that's the correct term).

Maybe their exhaust temperatures are a whole lot cooler than other engines, but I see a potential problem with heat damage to the fiberglass "tub". My understanding is that fiberglass is not particularly tolerant of heat.

YUP. Ypur right. That Krusti is toast...uh no pun intended.....

Blackfoot. Most Krrustis had there exhaust mounted that close or so. Ive never seen any problems. Other than the fact that its a Kristi that is.

Oh.... So you mean the jabs at each other. :poke: Ahh but a bit of a History lesson for you sir is in order. Back when this Snowcat section first came to be it was a rather dry "British" type of place. All blahn. "Prim and Proper". Everyone was precise and never strayed from the theme of the individual thread. All that changed when the "now" Grand Poohbah himself became a member. This was of course before he became known as the Grand Poohbah. It was actually in a reply to one of my threads that BigAl made that changed the theme of that old snowcat forum. A reply that made it into the fun place for us young at heart Old Farts to come and enjoy. BigAl himself made that change way back when! Im glad he did.

Well this British Old Fart is not so prim and proper - well I own two Snowtracs, both of which actually work, which is more than I can say for yellow bathtubs called Yettis - so I am probably a bit of an eccentric British Old Fart!

Its ok . at least I am always clean in my bathtub !!
Good Morning !
Coffee's on

Your right Dirty butt Tucker . It is close , but not any closer than the original set up . I still plan to wrap it in heat cloth to be safe .

One Thing I forgot to mention at the start of this Thread , There are basically only two parts that are "Kristi Made" other than the Body design . Those two parts are the Clam Shells and the Transmission . Anything else can be made or gotten from other Parts sources .If the case on either one is broken or cracked good luck finding another :unsure:. I heard of a few donor rigs that you can salvage parts from if need be .

Hey Big Al. I just got a new Kristi snowcat but i need a new clam shell and the smaller sprocket and the chains inside, on the passenger side. Know any where i can get these parts?

I am in Panama for the next 2 months .I'll need to access my notes back home to see what is avalible . May be tough to find those parts ,
Allen!!!!

I have been bad .... I been everywhere this past year ,except working on the KT3 . The KT3 has been sitting in the shop waiting for my return .

There's really only two things that basically need to be done , Assemble the new tracks that are lying on the bench and paint and install the upper half of the body . I am in the process of moving everything to my new shop in Idaho where my KT7 is located .

I've started her up and ran it through the gears . She purrs .Still thinking that I would like to make the upper body open like a clamshell using air shocks . It sure would make it a lot easier to enter and exit .
