So last summer, one of the three gas stations in the village 10 miles from our place had a BIG Oops moment as they were taking a delivery of fuel. The delivery driver of the semi hooked up his hoses to the new underground tanks the station had just installed during a full store upgrade. He began pumping then crawled back into the cab of his truck and proceeded to take a nap while it was pumping. The tanks filled to the brim then proceeded to overflow into the ground surrounding it. 7000 liters of fuel spilled and saturated the whole property. There's even a chance that it got into the ground under the only grocery store next door.
Fast forward to today, they had been digging up all the ground surrounding the station all summer to remove the contaminated soil. Today, the gas station (which also housed a 2 stall car wash) came down.
