Any one catch Hell On Wheels on AMC last night

I recorded it last night and will the rest of the series. It is a pretty good period correct pieced based on the building of the Intercontinental Railroad just after the Civil War. It has a pretty good cast also. It airs on AMC Sunday nights at 10 PM EST.

Yes. Looks to be a well-done period series, brave enough to focus on the ideological mistakes of the past. Can't tell for sure from one episode, but it looks to take shots at corporate greed and its influence on (among other things) slavery situation of yore and the decimation of the Native Americans.

Or I could be reading way too much into it and it's just another shoot-em-up with lots of drinkin' and whores.

.

Well you might be reading too much into it but facts be facts in history regardless. I have been following this coming out for a few months now and it does look good to me. There really is little in the way of shows on this period of time.

Nope I sure hadn't heard about it Joe but thanks for the heads up , it sure looks interesting I just looked at the trailer.

I watched it. Well most of it, my reciever decided to throw a fit and I missed a couple little chunks in the beginning. I thought it was done rather well. Had been looking foward to it, and will continue to watch it

If you missed the opening scene it is a guy walking into a catholic church and going into a confessional. The guy on the other side of the wall is the main character shots him in the head after asking him about the sins from the war. I was also mentioned on the train by two of the others going to work on the railroad and telling him about it. The second and last guy so he thought he was looking for turned out to be the man that hired him to run the colored workers. He was talking about a sergeant that actually strangled his wife before hanging her.

Hopefully it will be re-run which AMC does often. I know I had my DVR set to record the whole series a week ago. Now Walking Dead I had not seen at all. Now I'm not one for Zombie movies but this one looked like it also had some promise if I had caught it from the beginning but at this point I don't think I'll follow it. Sunday night I also record Dexter and Homeland both of which I like a lot. Dexter I also missed much of the first season but did catch up on it when I added the channel to my lineup just before the second season began. Glad they run the previous season before the new one begins as it gives a chance to catch up.

Another I miss on AMC is Justified which I had just caught the second season off. Even with a DVR can't keep up with all the good shows on TV in-spite of having all the channels.

Justified was on FX, I thought? Unless AMC runs the re-runs for it. I liked that show, too, when it first came out. But the time it was running, was just a bit too late for me, adn I always ended up falling asleep halfway through. Hoping to aquire the season 1 DVD soon, as it was a good show.

Must say, AMC has put out some quality programming. The "Breaking Bad" series was great (managed to catch all episodes) and took gobs of awards. This latest one, "The Walking Dead", is a little weak ... story and acting.

I like a good 'period' film, and from what I saw with the first episode of "Highway to Hell" they are going to have the late 1800's West down pat. Something like that takes a lot of research. And money.

Sorry Rusty, you are correct that was on FX. Sometimes the little really know channels get combined to me.

I agree Kane but watched the first 3 or 4 shows of breaking bad and lost interest in it. My only complaint is the number of commercials that turn a 30 minute show into an hour and wished they played these thing commercial free.

Shooting in NCOWS has caused me too look at these shows and study for period correct and so far in this case they are perfect to the period they are portraying from 1869 to 1880's or so. I mostly look at the guns, holsters, tack and clothing worn and found no major flaws so far.

It's nice to see that they actually did their research, Joe, for this series. It makes it that much better to watch.

I agree Rusty, and to me this is why a mini series like Lonesome Dove has stood the test of time. There is an authenticity to it that one doesn't find in a grade B Western with their tie down holsters they wore low for quick draw which is something from the 20th century Hollywood. I was raised on B Westerns and only over the last year have really got into the history of the period from the Civil War till just before the 20th century. It is fascinating how different the two really are.

I just caught the Hell on Wheels episode that was first aired on 11/13/11 It was good. I now have the series set to record. AMC has created some interesting new programming.

I caught the end of the series breaking bad and enjoyed it. Mad Men had some good ones, but last season was kinda boring for me.

I've also recently tried that biker series on FX ... was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed that too. (Can't think of the name of it though :pat: )

I been recording the Hell on Wheels so far since the pilot. I've also recording Homeland this season and Dexter. I missed what ever was on Dexter previous to this season. I did watch Breaking Bad when it first came on but just wasn't my kind of show.

The guy who was the dad on Malcom in the middle played a completely different type character in Breaking Bad. The last six or so shows of the series this year were very compelling. He did an outstanding job. I think the show is completely done now though.

You talking about Sons of Anarchy Doc? I cant get any of these shows on the tube, but I do have the dvds for up to season 3 of SOA , one of my favorite series next to Deadwood.

Yep, that's it Cowboy; Sons of Anarchy. First time I've watched it was this season as my son in law told me about it. I tried it and I liked it. Would like to watch the earlier seasons sometime but I can't imagine when I'd have the time.

Some of my favorite series that are no longer on are the The Sopranos and Deadwood. Now is True Blood, Spartacus, Homeland, Dexter and Hell on Wheels. Hopefully Strike Back will have another season also as it just ended.

Funny now the Walking Dead I don't really care that much for the same with Breaking Bad. Just never been much on Zombie and Drug movies personally.

Yeah, I'm big time into zombie movies ever since the great George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. What a great flick. Right now I'm actually reading World War Z, a zombie book by Max Brooks. You may have heard of his dad, Mel Brooks. Great story, but ya gotta like zombies.

Yes I'm familiar with the Brooks family in show business. I do like good SciFi, and Horror just never could get into the Zombie thing for some reason. Give me Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Warlocks etc and I can watch. Just something about dead mindless creatures roaming around the country side was kind of boring to me.

Like they say at AMC, it's all about the story. And they did a really good job with the story line in "Breaking Bad" -- a study of right and wrong. Just so happens it revolved around a desperate chemistry teacher the knew how to cook awesome meth. I really liked the show, looked forward to every Sunday night.

And the same with "The Walking Dead". The story has more to do about the right and wrong and the character of people stressed by a world calamity than it does about zombies. Although having lots of well-done zombies walking around in every episode doesn't hurt.

And it will probably end up being the same way with "Highway to Hell". Railroads aside, it looks like the story line is developing around the right and wrong of slavery and the decimation of the native Indians.

Stay tuned.

I did watch most of the first season of Breaking Bad just lost interest in the show. As for the Walking Dead I watched three episodes and it really wasn't for me. Now Hell on Wheels is something I would like so will track it. I understand the story line of most of these shows just some do little for me, just my tastes no reflection on anyone else's at all.
