Aluminum Wheel Polishing ?

TOMLESCOEQUIP

Just Plinkin Away the $$
I just picked up this older jeep wrangler to use as a shuttle between my kids LL & soccer games. It has a set of wide aluminum wheels on it that are in good condition, but need polished & cleaned up. The wheels are not clear coated, so I'll be polishing directly on the aluminum surface. What is a good cleaner/polish to use ? Is that new powerball(made by mother's I think) thing that fits in a cordless drill the way to go ? I have 5 to do & they all need work.

That's a good looking Jeep :a1: . I especially like those wide fender flares!
I don't have any advice on what to use on the wheels:confused: .

Have you tried FLITZ? I think it is one of the best metal polishes I've ever encountered.

As for the polishing balls, I've actually been waiting for Dargo to get one to tell me how they work! But if you try it, let us know. I've got a set of wire wheels that I need to clean and the little polishing ball might be the ticket.

The jeep came over from Hawaii to Ohio with a serviceman who had it on base while over there. He sold it to his younger brother (also in the service) who just got transfered out & that's where I fit in .........they had to sell it or store it ! The wider flares are now laying on the floor in my shop. One of the rears had a crack in it over whe wheel & I bought a replacement set of stock type flares off Ebay. The big flares required holes drilled for installation, 13 holes/flare in an otherwise rust free original paint jeep...........UGHHHHHHHH !! A local body guy wanted $700 to weld them shut & paint the sides, or $1000 to repaint the whole jeep. Our local Lowes store sent out $10 gift project starter cards good on a purchase of $25 or more for Memorial day weekend........So I fixed the holes by buying $25 worth of stainless steel screws for $15..........Problem solved !!

Nice Jeep Tom!:a1: What year, and what's it got for power? Those wheels look alot like the old Cragar Mach 8. I had them on a Dodge van, 1974. Seems I used Simichrome polish on then, and waxed the dogsnot out of them. Is there any pitting?:tiphat::beer::beer:

Jon........It's a '91 & has the HO 4 litre six with a 5 speed. It has a pile of miles on it, but runs great & has zero rust anywhere. I had to fix a dozen or so mechanical issues, but nothing major. I just found a complete spare jeep for parts for $500 or less 2 miles from the house. A friend told me about it yesterday & said the owner paid $500 for it as a fix it project, & wants an offer. So I may be set for mechanical spares for awhile. The kids love riding in it !! ( I kinda do too !!)

Tom, excellent! A good proven package, that one. I've thought about an older CJ, or Bronco II, for upnorth. Or even one of the original Bronco,s, '65-'66, ya know. I could most likely find either, but my bucks are going to the house for now. Have fun with that badboy. If there were more rocks in your part of Ohoho, you could always make a rockcrawler out of it!!!!:D

OBTW, I got a haircut!!!:yum::tiphat::beer::beer:
