Umm no kidding.. thwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackk!! :yum:
I was wondering if there was a story behind the photos.

Dry chafe and heat can cause that. Most combines will have the fire extinguisher. This one was evidently too far gone and once the diesel got burning it was all over with. Or there could have been a leak in the fuel system onto the manifold.

So, whoever was in the combine prior to it setting ablaze, spent too much time in the field, and didn't know the thing was actually not in the state it should have been to operate properly, say for example.. taking off 50 acres of wheat or corn?
I noticed the sad little fire extinguisher sitting on the ground.
That must have been someone rushing in to attempt to put it out, right?
Sort of like throwing a bucket of water on a house fire.

I know, I ask too many questions.
Feel free to thwack.:yum:

We had a cat loader burn like that at my old job a few years ago. The engine compartment became packed with wood chips which caught fire and torched the machine.

No thwaacking. I am sure in that really nice air conditioned cab he did not notice the fire until he turned around. The smoke would have went behind him. Even going the same direction once it starts it may be too late.

Gosh, and that looks like a fairly new combine.
The ones I see around here out in the fields, most of them are OLD, and I do mean old.
I bet none of them ever set on fire.
