Another of Obama's friends goes to jail . . .
Detroit's Anti-Gun Mayor Now a Felon
http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=4158
Friday, September 05, 2008

Kwame Kilpatrick, the now-former mayor of Detroit, and a member of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun coalition, "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," pled guilty to felony charges of lying under oath and obstruction of justice, and pled no-contest to the charge of assaulting a police officer, on September 4th.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner sentenced Kilpatrick to two concurrent terms of four months in jail and fined him $1 million. Kilpatrick, who refused to resign from the mayor's job before being sentenced, was also forced to resign. He also lost his law license and will serve a five-year probation, during which time he will be barred from running for office.

Last year, Sen. Barack Obama called Kilpatrick a "great mayor" and "friend," revered as a "leader . . . across the country" for doing an "outstanding job" of bringing about a "renaissance" in the Motor City. As Kilpatrick's legal fate seemed unavoidable, however, Obama called upon him to resign.

Bob, I'm curious, how many times in Mr. Obama's life has he been with Mr. Kilpatrick in person to consider him (Mr. Kilpatrick) a "good friend"?

Bob didn't say it, Obama did and we have to assume that they are friends because he Obama said it.

Murph, God forbid politicians use "generalities" to describe their relationships with other people.

Do we hold McCain accountable that he was "friends" with Charles Keating?

There seems to be so much "fluff" either pro or con about polititians (and usually pro per the republicans and con about the democrats) on this forum that it really seems to be getting past the point of being ridiculous.

I'm still waiting to see who's going to break the story here on what kind of dildo Sara Palin uses. My point is who really cares?

Using generalities when a politician you are subject to what you say. They are center stage all the time. But we don't know if they are friends or not nor do I know any of your friends. But if you told me that someone was your friend I would believe you. Obama said he was a friend and you nor I can dispute that because we don't know what goes on in the background.

Ok all a side; I do agree they probably are not real true friends other than acquaintances over the phone. The end of what Bob posted it did say that Obama did say he should resign which was the right thing to do.

But Bob's posting "Know the Man by the Company he Keeps" Yes it means a lot and I do beleive in the statement. I have acquaintances that are not true friends because of the company they keep. Simple as that. Really no diffferent than looking at a candidate's past.

But perhaps Obama is only an acuaintance and not a "true friend" of the mayor. Then Bob's comment about "another one of Obama's friends goes to jail" is nothing but hogwash.

Well I am willing to take Obama at his word. He is the one who called the Felon/Mayor of Detroit his friend. Are you suggesting that Obama would lie about something like this? What would be his motive? I think your 'generalities' comment above is probably off base. Read the statement by Obama, he makes the statement and it sounds like more than a simply passing comment. In fact he sounds more like a gushing teenager with a crush.

If you are going to lie and call someone your friend who is really not your friend then what do you get out of it?

Why would you presume that Obama is a liar?

Honestly, I have no clue, nor do I really care, just like what type of ATV Mrs. Palin drives (Honda) or if her daughter is pregant or not.

:hammer: :hammer: I wish you could understand that is was not the type of ATV but the fact that she drove one. There is a lot of women in this world today that would not touch one including my wife. :hammer::hammer: That thread was also along with the fact that she hunted and did many other things and I thought that spoke volumes of her.

Don't try to tie this thread to that one as you took it wrong. :pat:

If he was an acquaintance then yes, but can you DZ make the statement that they are just acquaintance? I think Not.

Bob, what I'm saying is Obama may of made the "friend" comment in general and they may have met each other a minimal amount of times in a professional setting. Honestly, I don't know how well they knew each other.

I guess you and I have different expectations of what women can do Murph.

That said, just because Palin can ride a ATV and hunt makes her no more qualified to lead a nation than someone who dosen't have those "hobbies".

Now you just twisting things. Where did I say that because she rides an ATV, hunts, fishes that that qualifies her for leading this country? I said it speaks volumes of her. And in my mind it does. I think she is a very interesting women. There is more women that don't do all she does than do and don't try and tell me different.

Come on Murph, with you, Bob and some others here gushing over Mrs. Palin, before you know it Mrs. Palin will be walking on water, raise the dead from the earth, and then we'll find out she's Ronald Regan's long lost daughter to boot:w00t2:

Murph, when you stated that McCain couldn't of found a better person as his vice president than Palin (and being vice president means that you are "second in command" behind the president to lead our country), I thought you meant Palin was qualified to lead this country. Where I'm "twisting things?

Yep, healing is coming along, although the last couple of nights I ended up waking up at 3:30 this morning to soak in the tub.

By the way, I've PM'ed you couple of days ago to find out exactly where to send the shirt, with no answer from you.

I'm still waiting to see who's going to break the story here on what kind of dildo Sara Palin uses. My point is who really cares?

I would think it may be some kind of polished antler. Only my opinion.

To be serious, I think it's pretty simple, for years we've been hearing Abzug, Steinam etc. yelling woman, woman, woman, well Palin is one but not the kind they wanted. "Be careful what you ask for you may get it"

I also think they weren't ready for Sarah Palin, the dems were set to fight Romney, Pawlenty etc. and it threw a monkey wrench into their plans.

As far as the uproar, she just threw O'Bama right off the front page and the public latched on because she has brains, seems to have guts and just doesn't fit any expected profiles.

Ah I think that is about the same as some here including you when it comes to Obama.

I don't remember stating that in this thread or the Honda thread that you had to bring in here. I am also entitled to my opinion. You have yours believe me. However, for the record, I think it was good McCain picked her. I am sure you think Obama did good by picking Biden.

Murph, perhaps that's the difference between you and I.

I try not to let my "likes" and "dislikes" make me impartial to information that is given to me. People already have "pre formed" ideas and take the information they are given and let their own personal opinion "interpret" that information. Sometimes this is called being biased:D

Did you read my response to CB as to who I was going to vote for in the presidential election? Apparently not.

And for the record, like McCain with Palin, I think Obama could of made a wiser choice than Biden.

 I have done all those things she has done, and probably still could (if I had too:glare:) does this mean I could lead a nation?

To be serious, I think it's pretty simple, for years we've been hearing Abzug, Steinam etc. yelling woman, woman, woman, well Palin is one but not the kind they wanted. "Be careful what you ask for you may get it"
Maybe this is why this woman is "ok" to run the nation....because she can do a man's job....hummmmm?
