Kristi KT-3 SN 00145

Do you think you might have air in your hydraulic system? Why does it "lift it's leg" in the turn?

Good to see it running!!:thumb:

Rats, you noticed the KT-3 doing one of its super secret things! :pat:

From this video frame capture, looks like it is a hydraulic thing. You can see that the left-front chain clamshell is fully extended down when it should be horizontal. Cool, more stuff to fix later. :thumb:

Bob, Do you think it did that because most of the weight is on the outside track coming around the corner and the Super-secret-Kristi stuff is trying to balance pressure on the tracks ?

Until I looked at this recent video, I thought the problem was related to the boggie suspension system or track tension. Now I see that the hydraulics are moving and not just boggie pairs about their pivots.

I've never worked with hydraulics, so I don't have a good idea of what may be going on here yet. Here's a diagram; what do you think?

I'm no hydraulics expert, either, but your drawing doesn't show any check valves so anything is possible !!!

Hose B and the hose at the back connect the 2 sides. There must be check valves somewhere ?

If you use the controls to tilt the machine to one side, does it stay there or return to level in a few minutes ? Same both sides ? Front to back ?

It is suppose to stay to one side. Since mine does not have the engine-driven pump, I turn the pump off after tilting to save the battery. With the pump off, I believe the high side will eventually bleed down. With the current plumbing, there should not be any front to back action...I think.

The hydraulics have a leak somewhere. Also the valve used to close and seal the system leaks. It just needs a bit of work to get her back in shape. The biggest problem I see with the Kristis are the grouser design or lack of design. I feel the aluminum grousers Boggie sells would work wonders for the Kristi. I also believe the floppy or loose tracks that came on the original Kristi provide alot more forward and reverse traction than people give credit for. They would also help with sidehill traction. The old Kristi I just found still has the original belting in place and I can see how the hump it would make in the snow (several of them) would act like a reverse grouser. Its also a funny type of belt with rough texture. Its also not very thick. Either way its something to think about when rebelting a Kristi.

As a consolation prize for his second place finish in the Kristi Karma Poem Contest, I offer up the following video to groomergitNWO for a few chuckles...

:pat: Okay, that was good I'll admit! But your were leaving a few rutts behind as you were going and you didn't really cut the moguls too much. Nice attempt though.....:rolf2:

Laughed my A$$ off during the entire performance!:clap::clap:

cute?? CUTE!??

I'll have you know that I was engaged in a MANLY act. There was nothing cute about it! :bb:

:excl:Hey Bobcat......a few questions/obervations for ya regarding the drag setup in the video.....

1. How many blades does that drag have?
2. Are they fixed blades or spring loaded?
3. What types of controls do you have to control that drag?
4. How many hydraulic lines going to it? Should be 4.....two going to the front hydralic ram to raise and lower the front and two going to the back for the wheel setup.
5. You might want to consider using a vibrating packing pan on the back of the drag setup to help pack the trail better.
6. I see that it's a pintle hook design but you might want to change that setup and go with a ram-steer setup since it was attached to a Krusti snowcat afterall. The ram-steer drag will be much better in design seeing how the Krusti lacks traction in the deep snow...it'll make it muck easier to turn the snowcat in the corners.
7. What are your plans for this drag setup? Will you be using it for snowmobile trails? Ski trails? Packing trails for snowtracs to ride on without getting stuck? Packing trails out to old thiokols and tuckers broken down on the trail?????

:moon::yum:

Oh, stop it. I just used it to clear some Salsola along the property line of a friends 60acres near the Rio Grande. It actually did a pretty good job. She can now walk around the property without being waist-deep In tumbleweeds. :thumb:

I'm a little disappointed with the incompleteness of that tandem drag set up. Where are the cement blocks bungied on the top for weight distribution for an even, properly groomed trail?

You are correct. More weight was needed. This was a trial run. Later this week I hope to head down there to finish the job.

Yes, and for once, PLEASE take pics OUTSIDE the thing.
I wanna see ma mayun walkin' around in all his Kristi Kuteness....

Get some old chain link fencing and run it on the bottom of the pallets. Then find some rocks, old concrete or whatever and lash it down on top of the pallets. Done.

My original plan was weighted chain link, but I didn't have enough time to pick any up that day.

Wow, I didn't realize you were blind :yum:

In that case, if you really want to improve your Krusti, why don't you hook it up to a pale blue pony and float it down a chocolate river to a place called neverland where it will be the king of fiberglass tubs and the people who inhabit the land will give you a shiny hat and worship the ground you walk on . . . but they won't worship you, just the ground you walked on. :poke:

Rounded up a Unicorn. Still looking for a pale blue pony...
