Wide areas of frost tonight.

Gone But Not Forgotten
We have been harvesting the garden and moving a ton of stuff into the greenhouses. Dang early for this around here. Put the window back in the hen house so they will be warm.

Yup. Early end to the growing season tonight. Harvested what I could, covered some but the rest will fertilizer for next year.

I'm just hoping they are wrong... not much I can do.
I don't think it will be a hard freeze so tomatoes and peppers that are still out there will be OK.
Sure is early, though.

I picked most of my peppers and then she cut a bunch of herbs and tea and assorted mints.Sure hope nobody visits for a while. That does not include the stuff that is hanging in the shed and elsewhere in the house.

Very nice lookin' peppers there Bill.

It is so sad to hear of this so early in the season.

I actually planted 3 hills of cukes today. Yes, here in Mo there is time.

My son's NE Connecticut gardens are doing very well but it appears I will not be able to get there in time to finish the frames for covering them with fabric and plastic.

Here I can usually wait until late October before we have to cover the tenders. His fall seasons are supposed to be nearly the same there as here. Not this year.

We only got down to 35. No visible frost right here but folks in the valleys are reporting some. Real spotty who got hit and who just got cold. The areas around the lakes stayed much warmer. Now will have to watch the greenhouses don't heat up too much the next few days as the heat in the midwest moves east.

35 here as well. Heavy fog saved the day. Fog never burned off till after 9.

BTW, nice looking Bell Peppers you got there Bill. Did you grow that pineapple too?:yum:

Ya, that's a whack of peppers, Bill !

It got down to 33 at the airport about a mile away. Only lost one and a half squash leaves

Your garden looks like mine. Part fortress to keep the critters away. After I showed the wife how many peppers we still have vac sealed and froze she took them up to the Amish farm market. The old guy was mighty happy to see them. Made about 2 bushels and we have more on the plants plus they are still flowering. We also have 9 more cauliflower coming along. Next up is harvesting tomatoes and them second planting of corn and second ears on the first. The 3rd planting of corn is pushing ear also.Brussel sprouts and eggplant will be last crop of the year.

You can't see a lot of the fortress... I got that one foot wide wire shelving at the dump...about 70 feet of it and buried it long side vertical around the edge. Where I don't have that, there is heavy geotextile buried. You also can't see the plastic deer net fence with one inch holes. All this because of woodchucks... they had a feast on green tomatoes in my other garden.. hope they get the runs :shifty:

Supposed to get down to 31 tomorrow night. Guess I need to round up some sheets and try to cover everything.
Hard to believe it will be a low of 55 on Tuesday night. Crazy weather.

All of this talk about cold weather. Why don't you send a little of it my way? It is 102 today going down to 74 tonight.

Up and down like a roller coaster. Calling for patchy frost tonight and then another warm up. At least we don't need heat in the greenhouses yet. With the bumper crop of fruit and nuts on the trees I think we may be in for a real winter. Been seeing wooly bears already also.

What color are your wooly bears ?
They were always black/brown/black when I was little. Now, they are black/brown/brown.

I have seen all brown little ones and a few bigger with black and brown. It is early to be seeing them like we have. The hickory trees are loaded with nuts, more than I have seen in the last seven years. Need to take a walk and look at some oaks and see what the acorns are like. Deer seemed to rub off their velvet early as well.

Ice in the water pan ! eek!

I covered everything I could but I think everything else will be done.
Average first frost here is Sept. 18.

Forgot and left the one window in the living room open.:hammer: Down to 41 so no frost this morning.

Get ready for some heat perhaps...It is going to be 102 here today. It may be comming your way.

Regards, Kirk

Saw this morning that folks up north are walking around in winter coats!!!!! It will be a while before it gets down to the ozarks....but still IM NOT READY FOR WINTER!!!!! I want to mow grass for a while!!!!!!with the new Bad Boy it is almost fun....almost!!!

We are trading the coats for swim suits for the next few days. Calling for 92 today and 90 tomorrow.:hammer:

Be a good day for Al gore to push his warming crap!!!!!!!:yum:
This has been a crazy weather year!!!!

Me too Leni, no one should have to tolerate that this late in the year. I am wearing a jacket to be manning the grill for dinner this evening. Feels great!

Regards, Kirk

Calling for widespread frost tonight. We are at 43 now and they say down to 34. If the breeze keeps blowing we will be OK. You can sure see the areas where it frosted last week as the leaves are changing and dropping. With temps like these I will soon need to cover my strawberries and some other stuff.Supposed to warm to 80 by Friday.:hammer::hammer:Damn roller coaster ride.

Hang in there Mule.......spring is on the way!!!!!!:whistling: just over the next ummmmmm maby three hills!:yum:
