Who has game cameras?

Dargo

Like a bad penny...
I've not bought any game camera to see who has been all over my other property for fear that it would simply get stolen when it flashed. Now I've noticed that several models have the ability to take IR pics or flash pics after dark. I'm thinking that I could hide the camera and use the daytime/IR at night settings and use the daytime/regular flash at night around my house. One I'm looking to possibly purchase is the Bushnell Trail Scout Game Camera 3.0. Does anyone have this game camera? If so, what do you think about it? I like the ability to have IR at night as well as have regular flash if I want at night.

I've wanted a trail cam, but I'm also concerned about it being stolen. I want to use it at my river docks where it would capture more people than deer.

I like the system you found, but would still be concerned with theft. I've considered putting in a 6x6 post. Adding a metal box with holes for the flash , lens and IR . But then I'm concerned they would poke it with a stick or something and destroy the camera. But ....I still might try it.

I've also considered these:

Solar powered surveilance cameras. They can transmit a signal up to 20 miles. 24x7 surveilance. If I could then set up a Tivo like recorder (using a disk drive in my computer) to run on a 72 hours endless loop I think I'd be in business.

Thanks Doc. My house is 19 miles (per GPS) from the southern end of my other property but 20.2 miles from the northern part. I'd be concerned about being on the very extreme of the transmit range. I usually find that the transmit range is under "optimum" conditions; which must be at sea on a clear day.

Well then...the heck with ya! I did more research today and ordered me one of them thar fancy game camers. I'm gonna see what she does and not post any pics of the college students fornicating back on my property here because nobody's interested. Besides, I assume that I don't have to get their consent in writing if I don't know their names, right?!

Thanks Greg, it's good too because they seem to like what I did. I suppose I'll have mine in a week or so. Hopefully it won't be MIA in another week. :o

Hey, turn it into a video game...... Make it web accessible and mount a gun on the tree...:gun2_smi:

Or, make the flash trigger a firecracker(1/4 stick preferably).....:yum: That would just be fun to watch...

Either way, let us know how it works out.. If it is theft resistant(not noticable when taking pictures) I might make the investment too..

I've thought of putting a small message on the game camera that says "Yes, you have found one of the cameras taking your picture. Smile, another hidden camera is taking your picture right now." Of course, there won't be another camera. The theory would be that a person would be less likely to steal that camera if they think they have been caught by another camera they can't find.

They have the fake cameras with a red blinking led that would be perfect for just that. Mount it high on a tree. You want them to see the blinking red light. You might even mount one in the vicinity of your trail camera.

I am still considering the solar camera solution. But I'm thinking I would set up a couple of dummy cameras complete with the solar panel, just to fool the theives. Hopefully they would not know which is real and which isn't.
....isn' it a shame what we have to go thru just to protect what is ours.
