Looking to replace Michelin Pilot Sport tires size 225/50r18

The Michelin have been okay for performance and ride but instead of 50k I'm at 20k on them and they need replaced.
Tire Rack has Michelins ranging from 250 to 299 ea.

Tire Rack has the PIRELLI P7 AS PLUS 3 for 194 ea. Probably a stiffer ride than the Michelins. I've never run Pirelli's before.

Both Tire Rack and a local dealer have the BF Goodrich Advantage Control. 195ea. Reviews say this one sings on asphalt. Loud road noise.

Tire Rack offers: Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive for 219ea. Reviews look good.

Tire Rack: Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus ...All Season high performance, 184 ea.

The we have Walmart offerings at half the price.

might be in a losing battle . . .

(long background story follows....)
I use an independent 'specialist' for the MB C300 and priors - he's German, has all the training course certs - up to date - on the wall.
every other year he closes down for 2-3 months to go back to Sindelfingen for "training."
he's honest, and he really knows his stuff on MB - he knows exactly what to 'watch / look for' in the various models/years to keep you not needing a highway tow. he's big on (preventative) fixing - before it fixes you - but leaves it up to you . . .

anyway, OE tires wore quickly, put on Michelin 40,000 tires (we don't do huge miles anymore . . . )
OMG! at ~20k the rear tires were shot. 'my guy' shop - office run by his wife - said 'yeah, that model really eats rear tires.'
which I took with a grain of sand - then when I got to the tire shop, the resident gray beard asked what car - and volunteered 'oh yeah. those models really eat rear tires - it's the rear geometry - nothing you can do about it.'
his recommendation was to go with a 60k tire - knowing you'll only get ~30k out of it....
so I've got 40k Michelin on the front and 60k Michelin on the rear. and more tire noise than I'd like - which was not there before, so it's likely the 60k tires - harder compound, etc & yada yada.
bottom line,,, perhaps a grizzly tire gray beard can clue you about your specific car and 'known' wear issues?
a dealer will not reveal such stuff...

the big thing now-a-days seems to be 'dry rot' - the CRV tires were less than half 'worn' but would not pass state inspection due to the sidewall cracking and dry rot. now . . . my first car was a 1959 Vauxhall - and then 1970+73 Volvos - we'd get 80k out of 40k tires . . .
and never ever _heard_ of 'dry rot' issues except on antiques sitting for 60-70 years in a barn.
so I'm suspecting the quality of materials has been changed in the name of cheaper sticker prices.

Thanks Chowder.
I intended to include that the tires are for a 2013 Toyota Avalon. Touring model.
So it has the 18" wheels. Original tires were 225/45r18
That sidewall was just to short. Ride improved with the 50. Doesn't look as sporty but I could care less. I want the comfy ride.

I found most OE tires seem to wear out at 20K. I had good results with Continental ExtremeContact tires. Kind of average from a performance perspective but the tread life has been good.

I've got DWS06 on the suvs. Porsche. BMW, and Benz. I put them on my ex E36, and on my current CLK.
Have pilot sport 4s on two roadsters, and one has Falcon Azenis.
I'm happy with all of them.

I've had the car since 2016. We've put 65k miles on it. This is the 2nd set of tires. Got me to checking my numbers. I put them on with 98k on the car and we have 132k on it now. :bonk: Not so bad, we got 34k on these tires.
I do rotate them but usually at 10k And the tire wear is even. I read the same posts on toyota nation. :D

Got an advertisement from my dealer, they are offering buy 3 tires and get the 4th one free. Good timing. That just might work out for me. I do feel better about the Michelins now that I realize I got over 30k out of them

well, ya' pays yer' millions
and takes yer' chances . . .

ran Pirelli for a decade on the Volvos - no probs - but design geometry seems to be a 'thing'

You mentioned the Pirelli P7's. I have those on my BMW and they're a nice performing tire. Incredibly quiet. Don't put a lot of miles on that car so can't say how long they'll last.

We have an Avalon and a Camry. We put Vredestein Quatrac-5 tires on both. IMHO, they're a nice all around tire, do exceptionally well in the snow and "so far" they're looking OK at around 50K miles. The shop did tell me this is probably the last year for them so I'd say we'll get 60-70K miles out of them.

Here's the reviews. With 5.9 million miles reported, you can see they're rated very highly.

Thanks all.

I checked on the Vredestein but they do not make the size I'm after. Looked further and did not see any 18" wheel options for this make tire. dang it.

We had an Avalon probably 15 years ago ... it was really hard on tires.
Yeah, runs great. Kinda sporty. gets 28mpg ...but eats up tires. 33k is not to horrible but on similar Michelin tires my 4Runner got over 50k and only had to be replace as the side walls were starting to crack.

Our Avalon is 22 years old. Runs flawlessly, no rust and not bad on tires at all.
Talking with Toyota about the Avalon they said a lot depends on the driver and the type of roads you drive. I opted for Michelin Defender 2 tires. 228 ea. 915 total from tire rack. Plus 101 to mount and dispose of old tires. 1000 bucks gone. LOL

'. . . depends on the driver . . . ' is basically a cop-out croc-o-sh!t.
in high school my older brother had a AMX. he'd want to borrow bucks from me for new tires.
then he went down to White Castle (local hangout) and come home with treadless tires..... in ONE, repeat ONE, night . . .

as I mentioned earlier - 80k out of 40-60k tires is 'standard' for me/us - we're not peeling out, we're not screaching stops, not taking curves at tire squealing speeds . . .
those habits have not changed - but the MB/Avalon eating tires in 20k is an issue aside . . .

Partially. It's a pat answer I'm sure, but we all know it to be true. A teen ager driving the same car will wear them out faster than an old fart like me. Aggressive driving will eat up tires. I got about 34k out of these tires. I expect to get more out of the Michelin Defenders. Will update in a few years.
For you to get 80k out of one set and 20k on the Avalon is a head scratcher to me.
