With no less than 54 driven wheels, a length of 570 feet, and a total output of almost 5,000 horsepower, these are just some of the highlights that make up the massively impressive LeTourneau Overland Train Mark II, the longest off-road vehicle ever made. So stick around until the end of this video to find out the story behind this huge US Military machine, including its Cold War, nuclear-showdown roots, and its equally-impressive predecessors.

Today I had a chance to check out the Overland Train at YPG. It is not open to the public but because a couple of the guys here are cleaning up the inside we had the opportunity go inside. In 1962, the Army tested a machine known as The Overland Train at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona? It was designed to carry equipment and supplies over both on- and off-road terrains? The train consisted of the control car, ten cargo carrs, and two power generating cars. It was 565 feet long and could haul 150 tons of cargo. The control car also contained living quarters for a crew of six, complete with sleeping, eating and sanitation facilities. The control cab is all that remains of The Overland Train today, and it may be viewed at the Yuma Proving Ground Heritage Center. The rest of the Overland Train was sold to a Yuma scrap dealer.

I believe they were used to service distant early warning radar along the Alaskan coast. White Alice sites as well. So yes they were used, but for not that many years. Back in 62 the black holes did not cost so much lol...
Another video that I have not seen before, the assembly and desert testing of the last version powered by gas turbines.

Letourneau built tree crusher... What a wild ride this is at 3 MPH. Watch as it climbs tree's and then busts them off.
This man built large heavy machines, that were simple. Brute force, and heavy weights.
