The SS Richard Montgomery was a Liberty ship, an American cargo ship, that ran aground in the Thames Estuary in 1944 during World War II. It carried a massive cargo of explosives, including bombs and other munitions. The ship is still considered a significant hazard due to the remaining explosives and the potential for a major explosion, which could create a tidal wave that would flood London.
