SHUT UP and DRIVE - or pull right and stay out of the way!:17875:

I suppose that says it all.

But what the hell do so many people (mostly women) have to talk about at 6:30am while driving (badly) and who the hell are they yakking at so early in the morning while they are driving? :blahblah: It seems like 75% of the idiots driving slowly in the left (passing) lane seem to be talking on their cell phones and totally oblivious to traffic. If these people really have to talk while driving why the heck can't they pull into the right lane and drive slow there?

At one time I had the statistics, but I'd really like to see updated numbers. If I recall correctly, people talking on the phone while driving have an accident rate that is something similar to drunks. The people who seem to me to be the worst drivers are the ones who use the "walkee-talkee" phones and hold them up and look at them while talking into them.
Honestly, I think drunks drive better than people on cell phones! :hide:

I may be a bit of a gadget geek, but as soon as I could get one I installed a hands-free kit in my car, and even with that I find talking on the phone distracting.

Yesterday we had a guy rear-end a garbage truck on the highway (55 mph speed limit) while he was talking on his phone. Lucky for him, he was only going around 25 mph at the time due to traffic. The moron tried to blame it on the truck driver, denied any injury, and then called 911 again 1 hr later claiming he was dizzy. He then tried to say that his diziness is what caused him to hit the truck and complained that the fire dept. should have taken him in to the hospital after the accident (he had signed a release). All the cops could do is shake their heads.

Driving while using a mobile is illegal here in the UK. Most people seem to do it anyway though :)

In 100% of the US it is legal to talk on a cell phone and drive. But in some larger cities and urban areas (like in Chicago) to legally talk on a cell phone while driving you have to use some form of a "hands free" kit. That could be a simple plug in ear piece with microphone, a Bluetooth wireless headset, or some sort of car integration kit. I think the car integration kits (either wired or Bluetooth) are the best because they mute the stereo automatically when a call is in progress, auto answer the call, disconnect automatically when the other party terminates, and they require no headsets since there is a microphone set up to pick up your talking and the other person's voice is played through the car's speakers.

What drives me nuts are the people who are trying to dial and drive. They are not looking at traffic, their speed seems to vary with the cars around them so if you are trying to pass one of these knuckleheads because they are going slowly then they often speed up and prevent you from passing because they realized they are going to slow, but then they block you in and slow down again a few moments later when they go back to playing with their phone

Driving to work today I passed about a half dozen people driving slow in the left lane talking on the phone. None seemed to be aware of traffic or their surroundings!

Time for a NEW product!

An electronic sign on the back and front of your car where through voice recognition what you say can be displayed for the other IDIOTS to read.

"Hey Mister, every hear of SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT?"

"Uh Buddy, you've had your right turn signal on for 5 miles"

"Lady, it would have been nice if you used your direction signal BEFORE you entered the left turn only lane."

"I'm glad I have my sunglasses for you've been driving with your high beams on and blinding everyone!"

... etc.

How about "Who the heck do you really need to chat with at 6:30 in the morning!?:pat:!"
