Shopsmith for Complete Morons

DAP

New member
Bob and some others wanted to know how the Shopsmith was working out. Here's my first magnificent attempt at woodworking.

Even the untrained eye can tell I'm a natural and my pieces will fill the auction halls of the new century generating untold riches for those lucky enough to own a piece of mine.

This piece, a kitchen cook book bookcase, commissioned by my wife, will undoubtedly be good for kindling at least 2 separate fires.

I will try and spare the 3/8 steel rod for other projects.

Seriously, the Shopsmith is a hoot. eBay seems to have it's own Shopsmith eConomy too. Stuff everywhere.

very nice..... may I suggest that you have a future as a craftsman in some other trade, which at the present time, I have no idea what it is.. :yum: :yum: GREAT for a first try.... :applause:

Junk .. just for that, I'm gonna ship each piece I build to your place. Store it in the garage.

You handle the eBay end.

:finger1:

You can ship it here :D , heck i'll even pick it up on my next trip up & sell it on ebay for ya & then mail ya 70% of the money it sells for.

Gees, looks pretty good to me. No kidding. I'm more of a metal working guy myself, but I like to think I can do some wood work at times. What does it mean when my carpenter told me that I need to stick to just framing? I think he is still jealous that I could drive those nails faster with my 3 pound sledge hammer when we were framing my pool house. :o (I couldn't find any of my claw hammers, really)

Good work Doug. Takes some kahunas to post project pictures for criticism. All my stuff is just too perfect to show off.

I'd make everyone else look to bad.

Hey ... no biggie ... if someone insults me, I'll just tear their head off and shit down their neck. :thumb:

For the record, I didn't post it for criticism either, although I'll roll with the punches. A while back I posted about picking up a used Shopsmith and a few members wanted to know what I thought about it after a project or two.

I'm having a blast with it. ...and reconfiguring it has not been a negative so far.

:tiphat:

Bookcase has been stained, urethaned and populated for those interested.

I lobbied hard against the cherry stain - and lost.

:toilet:

I like a cherry or mahogany finish. I think that looks awesome! I just saw a shopsmith for sale in my area and had never heard of it. I "googled" it and found that they are pretty cool.
Great job DAP! :applause:

Wow, that really did turn out well. I'm surprised at the stain color, especially since it is sitting right next to a cabinet that has a much darker brown stain. But then again, wives have the ability to pick the correct color no matter how much we husband's protest!

Very nice job Doug!! The more you do it, the better you'll be getting. I use to pickup those Coutry Craft type mags, and build cabinets for customers from them. Suld quite a few too. That could help finance the new fettish you're developing!:tiphat::beer:

Rico ... check out their site. www.shopsmith.com This is an old company that's still in the game. A quality product with a quality staff. They are constantly sending me freebies (small things I've needed etc.)

I am having an absolute blast with mine. Last nite, courtesy of eBay, I added a band saw. Lof of Shopsmith items moving on ebay, including entire setups.

I now have:
Shopsmith Mark V 500 with:
4" jointer/planer
6 inch grinding wheel (fixed)
Drum Sander
Sharpening Guide (for chisels, turning tools, etc.)
New Shopsmith turning chisels
Band Saw

This is in addition to the base Shopsmith staples: table saw, 48" lathe, disc sander, drill press/horizontal boring machine and the support tools.

I hope to be adding soon the Dado cutters

This thing is a blast.

Just curiuos, but is there a Teewurst grinding & stuffing attachment available? :yum: If so I might even buy a Shopsmith.
