Rodeo last night!

Gone But Not Forgotten
My neighbor below me should not try to be a farmer. He bought 2 heifers this past weekend and they are wild and crazy. First he just unloaded them and left them out in the small pasture at the barn. They were busted out of there in about 30 seconds. After chasing them around for 2 days we finally caught them Monday night at the other neighbor up the road. He hauled them home and tied them in the free stall milking area of the barn. Well the one broke free and busted the door open and took off Tuesday morning. She had about a 20 ft length of nylon rope around her neck dragging along. She ended up at my place out in the field and after a day of playing tag we finally caught her last night. He dove on the rope while I was distracting her and got her tied to a tree in my woods. I got my RTV out and put a clevis on the hitch to tie her to and pulled her out of the woods. Once she was in the field she kept trying to pass the RTV and getting the rope wound around the wheels. Finally tied her up short as I could while he went for a truck and trailer. Did I mention these cows have horns! Damn folks who think they don't need to dehorn cattle. Anyhow she is finally back in the barn with the other one and hopefully stays there and is not getting my bulls or the other neighbor's all racing and running the fences.:hammer:

You make farming sounds so idyllic. lol. Its a wonderful life, despite being heldf hostage to the elements, I would think...

I have a real problem with folks who can't keep a good fence for their critters. My other neighbor and I both have 4 strand electrified high tensile fence and our stuff don't even try to get out. The fools used electric tape fencing for horses and expect to keep beef cattle in. Even dairy cows would bust through that worthless stuff.:hammer:

Tell him the next time you have to catch one of his critters, you're gonna consider it a contribution to your freezer.

Dehorning them heifers would settle 'em down some. What breed are they?

One has some Brama in it and the other looks like some sort of long horn with a hereford. They are both skinny as hell and sure are not good beefers. He says he wants to breed them but they need a couple hundred lbs. just to sustain themselves for the winter around here.

The skinny part explains the fence crawling, but, what the hell was he thinking buying something with Brahma in it? Is he stoopid, or what?

Those, Simentols, Charlaise, all those white breeds are difficult on a good day. :hammer:

Stupid? Yep! Never been on a farm before and now he is a breeder of exotic cattle!:w00t2:Can't understand why cows don't just stay where you put them. Thinks 2 strands of plastic bullshit will keep them in. Has horses and can't ride them well enough to even follow after a cow let alone catch it. My old quarter horse would have corralled those cows by himself even without a rider. Reminds me of the Amish kid on a Thoroughbred trying to catch loose cows. I laughed my ass off as they made a fool of him and the horse. If I would not have given my horse away I would have shown him how a good horse works. The young girl who rides him now does great in 4h competition with him.

I learned a long time ago not to try to run cattle down, especially crazy ones. Just let 'em go until they've settled down, then you can usually move 'em where you want 'em.

Hoss high, hog tight, and bull strong is how he needs to learn to build a fence for those critters. First time I hadda run 'em down, I'd have shot 'em where they stood. Problem solved. Five'll getcha ten, he puts wheels under 'em in a while after he gets tired of trying to keep 'em in.

Next time he gets the inclination to go cowboyin', help him pick out some nice Herford cross cows. They're a helluvalot less trouble than them white sunzabitches.
