Replacement for a corvair motor???

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
I am looking into my future needs here , but what motor can I use to replace the existing Corvair engine in my Kristi KT4 when I rebuild it ?
I already have it farmed out to the local County Search & Rescue for the 2007-2008 snow season , so I need to start gathering parts soon . I need something along the lines of 90 horsepower and water cooled . I have all kinds of room to install so space is not a issue . Any ideas from you Motor Heads out there ???

Care to expand a bit ??? I do not know all the letters and numbers you were talking about are . Will it bolt up to the existing bell housing or do they make a adapter ? What kinda cost ???

TDI = Turbo Direct Injected. VW came out with them in '98 I believe. Excellent, efficient motor. Interfereance fit on the valves (like many VW's) so if the timing belt breaks or slips, the motor is toast. A very computorized motor. Not a good choice for a snow-cat application.

Find an older Eco-Diesel Turbo 1.9 motor from VW. No computor. Similar power (85 hp). The older turbo 1.6 liter diesel from VW was about 65 hp. Also a good choice.

I think there are adapters available to a VW transaxle. The 1.6's were available in the Bus (Wesfalia Camper I think), so... Interesting mount at like 45 degree angle.
