Not sure what brand they used. He just had the engine rebuilt down at a specialty race shop in the states. And it was actually the rocker studs that broke. I was just correcting it when you replied. Lol
We had some time in between the heat and feature race as we didn't have to run the bmain to make it in to the feature so had some time to kill and took some photo ops. Here's my son and I.
and my brother.
As you can see from a previous post, there was a family history with the number 10. My uncle ran that number back in the early 80s and used to win all the time.
Last night was going good until it wasn't. We drew poorly starting 6th in the third of fourth heat in a field of 9. Finished 5th. Top four transfer. That put us starting second in the second bmain. We took a round out of the right rear shock and the car took off like it was on rails. He went out and won putting into the feature starting second last row behind a few drivers who seem to think their cars are like ping-pong balls. A few laps in and a couple of cars tangled in front of us in turn 4. With nowhere to go he slammed into the other two cars destroying the right side of his. He got back on the track though and made a couple more laps and was still bad fast despite the whole side of his car flapping in the wind. Another wreck infront of him finished him off and he had to pull off to the infield. The whole side of the car will need to be replaced. There's also a couple of cracks in the frame that need to be welded along with a possible bent frame rail. He'll tear into the car today and see how bad the damage is underneath but we'll be down for a couple weeks.
That was quick. My brother had the car down to a rolling frame in two days exposing the damage. It was broken in 5 places and bent. He then hauled it down to the manufacturer 15 hrs south who got it in right away. We're hoping to be back in time for next weekend.
Considering that he was 15hrs south on Tuesday, he just updated that he is home and already has the driveline back in the car. Next is body and setting the weights again. Next weekend is a 3 day event here. He's rushing to get ready for it. Maybe hit a one day event elsewhere to shake down the car beforehand?
He hit a one day show to iron out the bugs before this weekend. Good thing as he ended up down a cylinder due to another broken rocker stud. He got that fixed in time for the first day of a two day invitational event this weekend at our track. I wasn't there yesterday but a gremlin popped up from the hard impact he took a couple weeks ago. He was a few laps into the feature race going down the front stretch. When he let off the fuel going into the corner, the steering began wobbling and he lost brakes spinning without hitting anything. Broken front spindle that was weakened from the impact cut a brake line.
He got that fixed. I was there tonight helping out in the pits. He drew bad starting at the back of the fifth heat in his class. This turned out to be a good thing as he passed 3 cars in his heat race. Because this is an invitational event, they awarded passing points which allowed us to bypass both bmain races and starting 12th in the feature. The race ran fairly clean with only one caution. He finished 10th in a very strong field of top runners from the northern states. The guy who wins weekly here only finished 2 positions ahead of us. There were 45 cars in his class this weekend
I was at the track last night helping out in the pits. Our first race was a make-up feature race from last week's rain out halfway through the night. We started 15th and two laps in we found ourselves parked rather tightly in the middle of turn 3 and 4.
They all drove away mostly unscathed. We ended up with a bent steering link in the front end but powered on to finish 9th in that race. Next up was this week's full schedule. We started pole position in the third heat and finished second to a big name racer from the states with a faster car. We made some setup changes and matched up a set of tires as best as we could for the feature as when he went across the scales after the heat they made him pick a number out of a hat for his starting position in the feature. Oh crap. Lined up pole position for the feature race infront of a field of big name racers. We held on through a caution free race to finish 6th overall!
