How/where do we talk about it? :confused2:

Daughter zoom is approaching that age. What do/should I expect? Mrs. Zoom is discussing the womanly matters of the issue but what should/do I do??? :confused2:

Brian,
That is one job that God and society designed for the women. No excuses, you don't have to worry. Just send your wife in there. But you could in passing ask her if she ever has any questions from a man's point of view she could. Otherwise it's mom all the way.

Puberty and the teenage years are tough. I don’t think there is “one size fits all” advise. Every parent, child, and family is different. You should be proud that you are concerned. Many parents aren't.

Thank God for women. I sure wouldn’t want to discuss menopause, tampons, bras, etc. with my daughters. But I guess I could/would if I had to.

As for the “other stuff,” I always expected the worst. It rarely happens, but be prepared.

I remember overhearing my mother telling my father he had to explain the “facts of life” to me when I was 10 years old. The next day my father got me outside and started. I interrupted him and told him I already knew how babies were made. That was it. Conversation over. We were both uncomfortable and relieved.

My mother wasn’t happy with my father. She insisted on explaining contraception and VD to me and that abstention was the only sure way. She wouldn’t let me interrupt her. She told me to sit down and shut up.

In retrospect, my father broke the ice and my mother closed the deal.

My wife handled everything with our three daughters, and did a damn good job.

I was the “trouble shooter.” I learned the lingo and slang the kids used. I would “drop” some of those terms to my wife at the dinner table and watch for my daughters’ reaction. I figured if my kids knew that I knew those terms they would wonder just how much I really knew.

I would tell my wife stories about what other kids were doing and that would open family discussion about contraception, abortion, STDs, bad friends, shop lifting, slutty clothes, driving, language in movies, drinking, smoking, drugs, etc.

I was very cautious in cutting my daughters any slack. One of my daughters was in her 20s and attending law school in New England. Most Fridays, she would drive to New York, spend the night with her fiancee, and come home to New Jersey on Saturday. Both my wife and I knew all about it, but my daughter never told me. One day she was talking to my wife and mentioned it. I told her not say anymore with me present because she knew I wouldn’t approve and I would have to put a stop to it.

My daughters still tell the story about Daddy and the tattoos. I don’t like tattoos, especially on women. My wife asked (told) me one of the girls wanted their ears pierced for earrings. I said okay. A few months later, one of them had two earrings. I hit the roof. I told my wife I didn’t appreciate her condoning that without my prior approval. I was told, “All the kids are doing it.” That enraged me even more. I said, “Yeah, and some of those girls are getting tattoos. If any of our daughters ever gets a tattoo, they better get in a private place where I’ll never see it. Because if I see it, I’ll cut the damn thing out with this knife.” I snapped open a switchblade and stabbed the kitchen table. The hole is still in the table, and I haven’t seen a tattoo yet.

One of the biggest threats today is the Internet. Monitor computer use closely.

Dutch - piercings are nothing they grow out - mine did. The next time I'm in Jersey, I'll stop by and you can carve out my tattoos for me. I hate them too but I'm too lazy to go in for repetitive laser treatments. Maybe we'll start with just a small one and see how it goes. :o I'm probably not as tough as I used to be.

I can't believe you would even consider getting rid of your Hillary, Rosie... tatoos. I know you spend hours daily admiring them. :yum: :hide:
