Mith's loader project II

Mith

The Eccentric Englishman
Continued from this thread, split it so dial up doesnt get swamped by pictures loading all at once (see I remember what it was like to be on dial up)

Progress, at last
Rear axle nearly finished, just need to make front supports and reinforce frame
Front axle nearly done, just need to reinforce with more bolts
New loader mounts tacked together
Rear axle hooked up with gear change and drive, just need a new belt and it will move under its own power

The new rear axle mount, changed to accomodate the pulley being moved
Rearaxlemount2.jpg

Nother view showing fancy metal work, that took alot of thinking to get that done right, would have been a trivial task if I had 3 arms, or some clamps ;)
Rearaxlemount.jpg

New front axle mount, this thing weighs a ton, made from box section and 2x1/4'' plate its basically a solid lump of steel, I doubt it will break
Frontaxlemount2.jpg

I cut some box at 45* to make the gussets
Frontaxlemount.jpg

Ive been thinking where everything is gunna go, the pic shows the gap where the hyd pump will go, I will mount an old mower spindle going through the chassis to take all the side load from the belt and mount the pump on top so it has no load in the wrong direction on it
Hydpumpplace.jpg

I still cant see a place for the battery so I might just tape it to the fender or something, I was going to put it by the side of the engine but one side hs the exhaust (going to be made into a stack) and the 2nd alternator is going on the other side so no room there

And now for the new loader mount design
Loadermountwingright.jpg

Basically some wings coming out the side, this has moved the uprights backwards so I can fit more ram in = higher lift and more power :D (I can fit the 400mm travel ones in now, should get 6+ foot of lift, how nuts is that, better get my will going now )

I'm well plased with the progress and still 6 more days off! Broke the bandsaw blade yesterday, some more should be coming friday. Got more steel delivered today too (dont tell but I let him park his lorry on the drive, thats a sin round here, they cringe when I drive anything over a ton on it), 7.5m 50x50x3mm box and 6m of 50x6mm flat, sure looks like alot of metal but it will quickly disappear. I like the guys who do the metal, they always tell the boss that I need a bigger welder :StickOutT Whats more, theyre doing such a good job that I might be getting (another) 200amp mig soon Score! Even better though, you should see they're workshop, it gives me a warm feeling every time I walk in

Anyway, thats enough progress for now, I'm gunna do some slacking for a bit, hopefully should be driving it around the garden by the weekend, then I can actually start on the loaderOnly taken me a few months so far

Hey Mith,

Hmmm you been a busy boy these days, and plenty to show for it.

Maybe you could put the battery behind the seat, I spose yer gonna out weights on the back, and making the bracket for those weights to take a battery would be handy. Other places?.....how about putting it below the fuel tank, would it fit there?

You have plenty metal gone into this beast, are you sure 12HP will still get it moving when yer done ;)

Front axles and wheels gotta go now for definate.

Is it possible to weld in another box section, right under where your uprights attach, and have it run underneath across to the other upright. It would spread the load much better and reduce the possibility of your chassis cracking where the new frame bolts on.

The rear looks great, that turned really nice.

Hmmm a rachet, vice grips...no hammer what gives?!......telling us you dont need an adjuster anymore, I dont believe ya. :D

I've been drafted in to make some new gates for the drive, all sorts of fancy doda's, scrolls, arrow heads etc....sure it will look great, but they are a fiddly boggin item to piss about with welding around them in confined spaces.

I'll post a pic when they are galvo'd etc.....with me shiney new Canon digi cam!

3pt linkage behind the seat, also there isnt much room back there, its a really short tractor remember, with the rear of the cab it will be a bit cosy behind the seat. The hyd tank is going under the seat inbetween the wheels. under the fueil tank is all the steering gear and just to the front of that is where the hyd pump and filter will go.

Good idea with the bracing going under the tractor, the only thing is at the moment it is still possible to get the mower under there and working, putting that beam under there will prevent that for sure, might be something to think about though, I was gunna put a tie between the top of the 2 uprights to prevent them spreading but I'll see if its needed and if it fits or not.

As to the engine, I think it will do fine (I hope :smileywac ). The gearing is rediculous, it tops out at just below 6mph. The new big tires should speed it up though :D

Hopefully tomorrow if its still there I will get a new seat, armrests, adjustable backrest, the works, I spied it the other week at work, might be going cheap, think it was a freebee :) If thats the case I will have room to put the battery beside the seat on the wheel arch, on the other side a tray to put pens, phone, camera, invioces, sat nav, playstation, TV and other essentials ;) Sounds like a plan to me!

The hammer is in the shed, it doubles as a prop to hold the tube in the light, talk about sketchy :D Tomorrows job is to rewire the shop, need more sockets and working lights!

Cant wait to see the gates, there is a faint satisfaction to decorative fabrication, I hope youre using MIG cos arc out of position is a right bitch :( I also hope your gunna galvo after youve welded, welding galvo stuff (wheelbarrows) has done me no favours ;)
I expect absolutely flawless pics, see I have an excuse, cheap camera, but you, cant blame your kit now can ya! :D

Well I connected up the steering today, all fitted (with major modification).
I spent ages making a new tie rod then relised after about 2 hours hard graft that i could just turn the origional one upside down and it would be fine :soapbox: Decided to use my new one so all those hours wrent wasted but it snapped when i was playing with it, gunna burn it with the welder more tomorrow :gun1:

Did all the work on the clutch too, just need a new belt and it should be a mover, also made a battery tray, if only I knew where to put it

chassis cracking where the new frame bolts on
Not meaning to have thought of everything but I have made some little 50x50 pieces of 3mm thick plate to weld behine where the bolts go, this should prevent the bolts from pulling out the frame, overkill? Yes. Pointless, No :D

I see the inside of the cab is coming along too.................

ITS ALIVE!!! :D :D
Pity it didnt have any oil in the engine or it might have been alive for longer, it was one of those naughty word moments. Reckon I got it shut down quick enough though ;)

Got all the wheels on, front axle is painted and all done, steering works, rear axle is connected up to most services, didnt have brakes before so I dont need em now, too hard to connect up :(, need a bit more bracing to the gearbox. Quoted £240 ($450) for the new rear wheels  Think I'll find a chaper way :)
Gunna treat myslef to a new seat, £40, comes with armrests and spangles :D
Subframe is all done, paint is drying right now, got the holes drilled for the loader uprights so tomorrow might have the loader frame done ;)
All is happy with the world
Funny innit, Ive been at this for about 3 months and I've only just got back to an (almost) working tractor, barely started building the loader yet. Also I've nearly run outta money and I havent even bought the most expensive bit (hydraulics) yet
Better stop having all this holiday ;)

I like pics, more pics ;)
Got tilt?
Axletiltfront.jpg

About 30+* I had to make it stop there as otherwise the wheels hit the clutch, without the wheels on it gets over 45*

The complete subframe
Subframefinished.jpg

Gotta love having a messy shop, just write on the walls with a pen, saves the trees man! :D

Man, you never gunna have driven something so fun as that.
Put some oil in the engine and connected the battery up, it goes, with alot, and I mean ALOT of somke she fired, it got a bit of a knock but not too bad.
Drove it down the garden, remember this thig has no seat, no brakes and the clutch is connected with a piece of string, was a bit shakey with no breaks but I made it. Down in the mud pit (a big area that ive lovingly churned into mud) you can drive it around, in top gear you can drive, floor the trottle and the back just slided right out, remember, loader ag tyres. The steering is so much better with the extended wheelbase, the front tyres dig right in and push you round.
As you might have guesses I'm really pumped, IT WORKS!!!! Yaaahoooooo And its the most fun thing to drive.....EVER! :D :D :D

I'll bet your neighbors might think otherwise:D :D

So how's the loader comin along? I thought that was the whole point of this. ;) Looks like ya had to build the horse before the buggy...eh:coolshade

Doc, I'm still deciding whether thats a compliment or not  :D

BA, they put up with everything else and I havent driven a tractor until today for about a week, so tough basically :D
The loader is, well, getting there, I've made the subframe, the other bits are being drilled today, should be able to weld it all up tomorrow, lots of preperation then wham, its all done in an hour.
Its a bit stupid really, I sold the B6000 cos it was too big, now I'm building a tractor to be the same size  :D
