LMC 1500 with Custom Full Cab

Here is an LMC 1500 that I spent the last 8 months building. We built the passanger cab and restored the forward cab to like new. The cab was designed through Metal Works by my son and has roll over protection built into frame work. ( by math caculations in the metals building program) It also offers protection for the driver and front passanger. The frame was tig welded together and aluminum skins glued and rivited to the frame. Folding, split bence seats to the aft cab custom designed by my son and I were installed.

We designed the fuel tanks to be fitted on the outside of the cab to be sleek and angled to match the front of the cab. The capacity needed to be 25 gallons a side.
The cab addition was lighter than the exterior roll cage and five man cab section that was removed. It ended up around 600lbs in weight. We attached the cab to the chassis throughout the length of the cab in 16 inch intervals, plus to the forward cab. The rear door lifts up with air struts and is wide and unaffected by the wind. As a group of builders, we put a lot of thought to everything we did. Including the rear step that has a built in 2'' hitch recepticle built into it.

That is a truely awesome looking cat !!!:wow::wow: I am suprised that
LMC never built a cab like that. Big brother to the 1450 super imp full cab.
Nice job. :wow: Now I want one!!

Since I finished it, I now have two more people that want one like it. It is a very nice cat. We are currently putting four torsion axles under a Super Imp. The chassis will be lengthened 18" to give it more length too. We are rebelting the tracks and adding length to them to fit the additional overall length. It will give it a larger foot-print and cut down on the pitching over bumps. It is something I dreamed about doing for a long time and now we are doing it. It will have a full cab put on it too. I'll get some pic of it soon.

nuttster,

Thank thing looks great!! Do you have any pictures of the interior? You sure do build some nice looking machines!!

I plan on getting some good shots of it this week. It looks brand new inside. We didn't leave anything undone.
Our test run on Friday had nine adults in it comfortably. I'm really happy, not even a single rattle. I need to still install a backup warning horn and the defroster switch is erratic and needs to be replaced.

Very nice !! I am also curious as to why they never built a cat like that, just too practical I guess ! Don't forget to post interior pics when you can. thanks

LMC did make one with a cab like this one. I believe it was in their last few years and they didn't sell very many. At that time there wasn't a lot of demand for full passanger cabs like there is today. I don't believe the LMC cab offered roll over protection either. I could be wrong, I have only seen them in pictures.
The LMC 1500 passanger cab without the additional head room is very short. the same problem with the 1200 series. You become very limited if you require it to fit through an 8 foot tall garage door. This machine is over 9 feet tall now.

Here are some of the construction pictures of the aft cab. First off is the cab after painting.

This image shows the cab and chassis attachments running full length.

In this picture we were mating the cab to the forward cab and chassis. It shows the roll protection framework.

This is the rear entry step with a 2" hitch recepticle designed into it. The Pintle hitch on the back of this cat was really messed up, so we removed it and strengthened the chassis to carry the full cab.

This image shows one of the split bench seat frame in sitting position and the other frame retracted agains the side of the cab.

Hey Nutsster
Perfect job:applause::applause::applause::applause:
I was struck by the way which is folded the seat position.

Another Master in construction.:hammer::hammer:
My respect for another major re -constructer and built maker of Snow Tracks.
It's what I had mention in the same work in Nikson’s imp.
When you see a work construction from the first view or in the beginning of the process you know exactly that this person "Is something else" . He knows what he is doing. How to built from the beginning a project. Every problem in the whole Metal construction, and everything after that, materials- electronics- equipment etc had solved first in the mind of that person.

From the first steps- the first pics, and after that, we know exactly that the quality of the process in work construction, will be in Α΄ Class.
We just are looking the progress of the construction until the end with a lot of interest.

I think that all us, the owners, or the re- constructers we have built two snowtracks. First we built a snowtrack in our mind, in our dreams and the second one, in the scale of the reality in the garage.
Which is the best way to constructed; sorry i don’t have the answer.

But some guys here in the F.F are Master in both of this procedures.
With them “the dreams came true”. For them the re-contracture of a snowtrack, it’s not only mental procedure, but what ever they can think (in their mind) and they constructed after in the reality scale, are true.

Thanks Again for the fantastic work, keep send pics.

Regards Nikos.

I finally got back up to Malad to get a few images of the LMC 1500. I had to replace the slave cylinders on the steering with new ones. I have some images that give a better idea of the detail I put into the cat. First off shows the rear door that lifts up, to be unaffected by the wind and to give a large opening. I plan to add a large handle grip at the bottom of the door. This image also shows the rear step with the 2" hitch built into it.

Here is a view of the split bench seats with one folded down. All of the rear seats have the ability to fold down if cargo space is desired. I had the rear floor pulled up to adjust the steering. You can also see the frame work of the rear cab which was built for roll over protection.

The next two images show the entry doors and seats.

This image shows the engine cover and controls all restored to new condition. All new foam in the doors and ceiling.

Here is a good view of the snowcat. The fuel tanks are slim and hold 25 gallons on each side.

I can only remove my hat & bow in front of a very nice, well thought through project...

Excellent - definitely this is next on my list of projects. Get something going in the size of the LMC1500, or SuperImp 1450...

Would love to see some video of this thing in the snow, as well as just a good walk around - shine & show type... :)

Love it, thanks for posting up the pictures of the rear. How are you liking the flip up rear door? Seems like it may be hard to close while standing inside?

Expert fabrication. I can tell by the welds and square frame work that you guys know what you're doing. Bravo!

Here is a new image of the back door. It is a little more difficult to close from the inside due to the center latch handle position. We discussed it and determined that the driver would always shut the door normally.

Here is another view of the cab at the Ranch in Malad, Idaho.

Excellent job, I do not have a Cat but realize that a great job was done. By your son and your self.:wow:

That's the best looking 1500 I've seen. Amazing work.

Do you do fab/custom work for other cat owners in Utah? Hint:me

that's a beautiful machine!, I need a snow cat for my work. Not a lot to choose from around here. What kind of price should I look at for a 1990 ish LMC 1500 with a flatbed and two man cab/ I'm in the market and found one but the price is out of my range.
