Larger (and more common) drive sprockets 2100b

I have been looking for a way to gear up my Thiokol 2100 without finding the increasingly rare drive gearing. So, when some Prinoth BR400 sprockets came available locally, I decided to go that route. They center well on the unit I have, with some 1/2” steel adaptor plates a local machinist made for me. Buuuut, I forgot how close those sprockets run to the wheel in front of them. So the question is, does anyone know if I will have problems moving that whole drive unit back a few inches? A 2 or 3 inch spacer on each side would give me the room I need, and I’m pretty sure it will go back that far. The driveline might need an extension, but that seems easy enough. And I have to extend the tracks a bit anyway. Any reason this won’t work?

Maybe raise the diff while sliding it back? My 2100's have the sprockets pretty low to the ground.

Doesn't your 2100 have drop boxes off of the rear end? The one I have does and it seems to have two different gear ratio options.

It does, but the faster ones are extremely rare. And once the blade gets mounted, I’ll need those lower gears too. It was my first thought, but they just are t available.

I did just that. I have two sets. I opted to use the lower ratio for pushing snow. The faster set is in the barn.

I don't have photos of the 2100, but I can get some when I go up to the camp. It is about 100 miles away from here. The 3700's have bolts on the bottom of the frame and brackets for the rams bolted to the sides of the tub near the front. Do you have any frame that came with the blade. Our 2100 has a 6-way blade up/down, tilt, and angle of cut. One of my 3700s has a 6-way blade that has up/down, angle (like a road grader), and angle of cut.

My frame probably hasn’t had a blade on it previously, as the Thiokol logo was right where those brackets mount. The upper control arms and the upper lift cylinder mount bracket came with the blade, but this blade looks to be only 4 ways, with up/down, and tilt, but not pitch (I think angle of cut) or yaw (forward and backward tilt). I’m adding on the pitch, and the hydraulics kit has blade tilt, but I think I’ll leave that off and use that last set of connections for the rope tow winch. From what I’ve read, the 3700s came with a blade, but the 2100b didn’t, so it has to be braced on the front axle. But finding pictures of that is not easy. Steve in McCall seems to have manuals for everything but the blades. Are your blades full track width at tilt or straight or somewhere in between?

I have a frame from one of my 3700s out in my yard. I could take a picture of it, if it would help.

I think the blade on the 2100 is full width and both blades on the 3700s are full width (12'3"). The 3700 with a 12-way blade is full width and it has asymmetrical tracks. I think they were around 54" wide. I think the frame of the 3700's blade mounting frame are the same width as the snowcat frame. There are two pieces of steel welded to the snowcat frame that drop below the frame. The frame for the blade fits between them. Like a shackle for a leaf spring. I can take pictures of one of them, because I have it at a friend's house not too far away. I can take a few pictures of the blade mounting frame bolted to the snowcat frame too. I think I have the blade off of that snowcat. I will be going up to where the 2100 is located this weekens, so I will take some pictures of it too.

Sounds like you have a decent collection for being new! Lol. I am too. Bought the 2100 in 18’. I’ve since bought a cushman trackster and restored it too, and I’m on to a 4vl as my latest project. That one is in bad shape. Bent frame rails etc.

Yeah, my wife thinks if they ever decide to refilm the series "Sanford and Son" they might want to film it at my house. Lol. I forgot I have another frame, axles and wheels, and drive motors for either a 2100 or 3700, and a set of tracks and extra grousers for the 2100. These treasures just seem to pile up. I am going to see if Thiokol offered a 12 step program for guys like me that seem to want to hoard this stuff. I might check with redsqwrl and some of these other old timers, I am sure they figured out how to manage the urge to collect. Lol.

Ill admit i have a problem. And as i learned in some leadership classes.... problems are opportunities for improvment.
So if your after a functioning collection of snowcats you need one for every situation. The restraint is needed to *just not acquire another cat with a blade* ironically i have a 2100 up at my camp that had/has a blade. Pretty sure they are bolt on pockets that nest around the front axle. It will be a few weeks before i go there but your welcome to the mounting system.

One cat went away 2 weeks ago and another stalled project cat leaving soon. 3,4,5 6 or seven to go. But the Kitten and the SnowTrac are keepers. Are there any vintage Euro motorcycle folks on the Forums?

Here are the photos I took of our camp's 2100 blade mounting system. I hope they help you figure it out for your configuration.
