How often do you have your septic pumped out?

I had them here this morning.
Apparently, every 5 years isn't quite often enough. They said it was close to getting clogged.
I'll do it every 3 years now. One of my houses has a DEP requirement of every 3 years so I'll do both houses at the same time.
 
Is having your system inspected a requirement?
I ask because an inspection here costs almost as much as having the system pumped out.
I paid:
$225 for an inspection (required)
$310 to have (2) 500 gallon tanks pumped out.
 
We are supposed to get inspected every year but there is no real enforcement. Accessing my septic tank involves some messy excavation because I don´t have risers. I didn't want the big ugly circles in the middle of my nice lawn.

I only got it inspected because I listed my house for sale ($140). Otherwise, I would have probably waited for 4 more years. My tank is 1500 gallons. We have been empty nested for the last three years so there are only two people using it. I'm also a toilet paper nazi so we only use Scott super thin stuff.
 
I used to dig for my tank (using a backhoe) but last year put in a riser which makes everything so much easier. Pop the lid and you're there. The lid is green and pretty inconspicuous.

There's me and 2 women. We all love our Charmin. Pretty sure septic systems don't like the Charmin but my butt does. ;)
 
Ours was done in 2019 when we moved in. We had it done last spring again. It wasn't bad for a family of 7. One thing we did have installed was risers with screw on lids surface level so we don't have to worry about digging out the openings.
 
We have ours pumped about every 5 years. So far no issues of clogging and we have risers on ours. Only 3 people in our household. I also introduce a box of ridx each and every month to the system by flushing it down the toilet. Seems to keep things flowing smoothly so far.

Once the system is cleaned, do the yeast and brown sugar once.
Once established, just do the yeast, preferably monthly.

Our septic guys says to use it. They claim that is a farce spread by some septic companies that wish to pump more tanks more often and to make more money. I am going to go with what they say as they always have treated us right since installation of our unit.
 
My house was built in 2000............... never been pumped. Never had a problem. Never drain hamburger grease down the sink.

Wifey and I always say we're going to do it in the spring. (Never seems to happen).

We pump ours on the odd years the pump guy says we could go longer but its cheap insurance in my opinion.

I retired from a paper plant that made TP and paper towels. Charmin and our top brand and walmart paper brakes down about the same rate our quality control says.
The key is extra extra flush in the middle of finishing up business more wipes and less wound around your hand on each wipe to keep the water ratio higher.
We constantly get competitor's product from stores to compare to ours.
We do have different grades of paper products for different markets, even 6ply for a private label so you only need 2 sheets but its expensive$$$$$$

This is how I was taught to wipe in scouts one sheet !!!!!

 
One thing that I have been doing as a precaution is using this stuff every three months or so. Screenshot_20251023_064829_Canadian Tire.jpg

On a slightly separate issue but in the same category. Every few months our well begins cutting out. I have to go around and pour some clr in the toilet tanks, let them sit for a bit then scrub the insides of the tanks to break free all the sludge. What happens is one will start trickling from being dirty and drain the well down.
