Hearing aids

Well, I did it. Finally got hearing aids. It's a little odd. These are StarKey something or other. Rechargeable good for over 40 hours.
Making notes for the doctor of what needs adjusting.
Like, taking a whiz in the toilet. Jesus, sounds very loud, like filling a 5 gallon plastic bucket with full pressure water hose.
Music on the car radio is odd.
Music in my warehouse is fine, don't notice a difference.
Music to the hearing aids in Bluetooth via Spotify is nice.
Using the phone is kinda neat.
But, ya, I can hear all sorts of things I haven't for some time.
I hear everything wife has to say much better. I haven't turned them off yet!
Went to a local Italian restaurant for lunch today. Nothing seemed different. Other than I could hear the waitress just fine. I was expecting to hear a lot more noise.
So far, so good.

Definitely weird the first time you wear them , what I noticed was the sound of walking on grass ! The Bluetooth to my phone is great , I still have trouble in a noisy restaurant , but they help . I don't wear them in the garage or the farm while working during the day , usually just my shepherd with me , so if I start hearing her talking to me ......that's not a good sign.

I just got my hearing aids back last Tuesday. They needed tuned to my current hearing test. The audiology center did a great job and the hearing aids work better than ever. Like you said taking a whizz now sounds like a fire hose. And walking through the house I hear creaks and sounds I've never heard before. Walking on frosted grass is even noisy. I think these are going to work out just fine. Great to be able to hear again.

At my appointment I mentioned that the echo takes some getting used to. So he set it back to 50% and over the next 30 days it will gradually increase. So I must wear them every day for next 30 days and that is no problem. I truly like these now that they are tuned correctly.

What finally convinced you to take the plunge? My husband needs to get some type of hearing device, but he's still in denial. Could you give an estimate cost of what was out of pocket?

Mostly for my wife. It wasn't right for her to always be repeating her words and words of others. I was getting pretty good at reading lips.
I spent under $5,000.
I could have gone to Costco and my cost would have been almost nothing. But I also had heard opinions not favorable to the ones they offer.

My hearing the issue I have is like at the Y at aqua aerobics there's no sound deadening and if 3 conversations are going on I get lost in it all and just can't understand any of them.

Yes. I had that as well. The Dr tubed a lot of background noise out after doing a hearing test in the booth, but not the standard beeps. This was multiple conversations and I had to repeat what the main person was saying.
On my earplugs rapt app, there's a button for Edge Mode. And then they auto tune to whatever the surroundings are. Worked very well at the restaurant yesterday.
Today we are going to a place in New Buffalo which is a fairly loud place. We'll see how these work there.
