Had a good hard rain for the past 2 hours

Cool.

Not a drop here. It's all to my East.

That deluge we got last Saturday was something... Between that one and the previous Thursday, we got a tad over 3.5". You aught to see how much everything is growing. The small fruit trees grew 15-20% in the last 5 days!!! Garden and grass are trying to catch that number as well.

I got everything mowed except behind the barn. Was going to spray fenceline but got rained out. Was also 85 F and is now down in the 70's.

Last Sunday theey had predicted a 40%chance of some showers. The storm did come, right straightdown Highway US 61. And right over myhouse.

Soft gentle rain for 6 hours.

It cameslow and steady and almost none of it ran off in the street gutters. Ground today is still very damp despite two 100 degree days.

Corn is still gone here in Eastern MO. But just two days later the beans are awake again and jumping. If they were up and solid the fields are now dark green folaige. Anybody that bet on corn this year is hurting. Anybody that hedged their crops with beans will do OK.

Go biodiesel.

We got some the other day but my grass is still brown and just a few weeds are green. It looks like it could storm but I have not seen a drop yet.

I don't know if my pasture will ever catch up it is so brown. Hayfields look green now but clover and alfalfa are flowering and only 6-8 in. tall. Grass may make a second cutting but it will not be the good one it usually is. A duplicate of last year.

I have some pasture in at the Springfield MO ranch. It was stone dead last June when I visited. I would think it is still so. Only worse.
It has been triple digits, or close to it, everyday since we were last there. Not a drop of rain.

If the fall rains come, I'll replant pasture but, timing will be critical. And pasture seed will be dear.

My neighbor likely has his cows foraging in my woods and along the Springs where some green always exists. And there is always fresh water. He will be buying hay this winter for sure.

I am feeding hay now but will be out before the end of October when the cows go to butcher. Hoping to square bale the front field to put in the hayloft. Will round bale the rest and sell it. Everybody with cows are buying hay wherever they can get it.

October seems pretty early. Do you do that every year or planning on butchering early due to the lack of feed?

Oh, and I was just mowing the lawn. The places that were too wet Sunday (after Saturday's rain) but it's dry now.

Going to the bunker to pick up some sandbags. That deluge we got on Saturday was brushing water against the house. For now, I'll keep sandbags at the ready. Longer term, I'll add another French drain.

I butcher every year so we can drain the barn down for the winter. I have heated waterers and even have pex run out there for heat. I can't justify the expense and work to keep cows over winter anymore. With feed prices jumping I will be glad when they go. Just checked radar and we have another even bigger storm about 15 miles west of here.
