My vote goes to Dick Butkus. I was only in the third grade when he quit playing, but I still love the old video clips of Butkus crushing ball runners and blockers. I played middle linebacker, and Butkus was one of my great inspirations. I don't know if Butkus invented this, but we were taught in tackling to "Hit-Lock-Lift and Drive", and that is exactly what Butkus did. He didn't just tackle, he drove the ball carrier into the turf.
So, guys, post video of your favorite NFL linebacker, past or present, then we can take a poll and vote on them.
This clip is about 6.5 minutes, and between minutes 2-4 are some viscious tackles and an interception where he breaks three tackles before being pushed out of bounds. Beautiful!
Enjoy!
