GM Recalls 721K Trucks and Full-Size SUVs Due to Defective 6.2L V-8s

  • General Motors is recalling 721K full-size trucks and SUVs with the 6.2-liter V-8, as the engine might be defective; a stop-sale has also been ordered.
  • The recall list includes popular models such as the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Silverado 1500, and GMC Yukon—all of which are 2021–2024 models.
  • The problem stems from internal manufacturing defects, and vehicles must pass inspection or possibly require an engine replacement.
CORRECTION 4/29/25: This story has been updated to correctly state that the approximate number of total GM vehicles from the 2021 to 2024 model years that are involved in the recall is 721,000, of which about 598K are U.S. models.
Earlier this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into GM trucks and SUVs with the 6.2-liter V-8. This came after the federal agency received 39 complaints regarding engine failures. While that investigation is still open, GM is voluntarily recalling about 721,000 vehicles worldwide (about 598K U.S. models) with possibly defective engines. The automaker has also issued a stop-sale order for affected vehicles in dealer inventory.

Me too. Well, I still have a couple older gm products that are from the pre bailout era. My last gmc sierra daily driver was a 2008 with the 5.3l. The front wheel bearings would disintegrate without warning. And truck for truck towing the same 31ft camper, my ford with the 3.5l will walk circles all around the 5.3l. Much more torque and overall towing power.

We also had a 2013 Yukon that got wrecked in an accident but I had to do the wheel bearings on it as well prematurely.
