It has been another unique and different spring this year. Started horribly dry, allowing corn planting to be done by April 25th.
Then the rains started, and we sat for several weeks. We delivered old crop corn in that period. After a week of planting beans, we
finish under the light of nearly continuous lightning Monday night at 1130. By the time we had the machinery back to the shed it had
started to rain. That was 3" of rain ago.
Big shout out to my youngest daughter and her husband to be. Paige planted most of the crop and when Charles was around, they basically
told me to go home so they could do it..
Yes, generational change is coming to our farm. I will always be around in the coming years, to operate machinery. But the bulk of all else will
fall on their shoulders. My machinery is theirs to use and to trade when needed. The same as was done for me back in the day.
My brother and I are the owners of the land, and we are happy to see family members interested in continuing operations. Both of us feel strongly that we need to keep the family owned and operated farms alive and well.
Carbon scoring is coming for 2025 crop, and we are supposed to get a certified carbon score we have to give to buyers.
What a bunch of horse sh1t. I don't think most will change one damn thing unless they are a looney Democrat. Not many that looney are around these parts.
SAF or sustainable aviation fuel is made from imported ethanol from South America because it has a lower carbon score than ours, even though we don't have scores yet. Used Chinese cooking oil is being used to make sustainable jet fuel again because the administration insists it has a lower carbon score instead of using domestic soybean oil. All the paperwork I have seen regarding this is headered by the Department of the Treasury. Nothing from the USDA that I have seen. Kind of fishy smelling if you ask me.

Glad I am about to get out of the rat race.
